Traveling by air is by far the most convenient way for people to get to their chosen destination, whether it is for a vacation or business purposes. Despite the tough economy worldwide, and ongoing suffering of airlines, there’s still a need for people to fill flight attendant jobs, pilot positions as well as jobs at airports and government aviation agencies.
In this competitive industry, U.S. airlines have emerged on top for the 2008, being the number 1 on-time airline amongst the 6 major United States airlines. The Department of Transportation (DOT) in the United States ranks airlines according to their arrival times which are between 15 minutes either side of the scheduled time. U.S. airlines achieved an 80 percent record of on time flights, which is a 16.5 percent improvement from the 2007 year. US airlines attribute their success to the more than 34000 dedicated and hard working employees. The other hub and spoke airlines that are in the top 6 are American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines and United Airlines.
This is not the only achievement from U.S. airlines. With the terrible storm conditions in December 2008, they still managed to rank number one in on time performance of all the major 10 carriers. Aside from the on time performance achievement, U.S. companies also managed to rank in the top three in bag handling.
