Chiquita Brands International, which deals in primarily in bananas, and is one Cincinnati’s most profitable companies, has announced that it will be moving its headquarters to Charlotte, NC and bringing about 400 high paying jobs to the area at the same time. The move is expected to be complete at the end of 2012 and comes after a $22 million incentives deal was put on the table by a economic development panel in North Carolina.

Ohio lost out to North Carolina after only offering a $6 million incentives deal, as opposed to the $20 million in state incentives that NC is offering. The local government is offering a further $2 million, making the total $22 million, which is going to be used to fund close to 418 high paying jobs in research and development. The deal was approved by the Economic Investment Committee on Tuesday.

The chairman and CEO of Chiquita, Fernando Aguirre, said in a statement, “After an extensive review of our capabilities and needs, we are confident that Charlotte is the optimal location for our business and that our decision to relocate is in the long-term best interest of our company, customers, employees and shareholders.”

Aguirre thanked Cincinnati at the introduction in Charlotte, stating, “I want to thank the citizens of Cincinnati. They have treated us extremely well. The fact is we needed to make decisions to help our business, not just in the short term, but the long term.” Many of the Cincinnati employees are being offered a relocation package, but for those that cannot move, the high paying positions are open for applications.

Spokesperson for the Ohio governor, explained why they did not match the incentive offered by North Carolina. “We’ve got to be a good steward of taxpayers’ dollars and that means making sure that incentive packages give taxpayers the right return on their investment. We’re not going to be irresponsible and give away the store to try and keep a company that fundamentally doesn’t want to be here or which has already made up its mind to leave.”

Currently Chiquita employs around 20 000 people and with its huge global market, executives agreed that the relocation to Charlotte would mean more efficient air access to its locations across Latin America and Europe, where it currently does most of its business. There has been discontent over the last few months with the airport in Cincinnati, which does not offer as many international nonstop flights as Charlotte does. Flights have also been declining over the past few years with Cincinnati’s only European destination being Paris, down from 5 flights in 2005. Nonstop flights and daily departures are also down more than half of what they used to be 5 years ago.

The Bombardier Learjet facility in Wichita is awaiting approval for a $52.7 million expansion, which is set to bring over 400 high paying aviation jobs to the Wichita region. Along with tax abatements, Bombardier is also requesting an investment of $1 million towards the expansion from city and county governments, as well as $2 million from an economic development grant that the Airport Authority is applying for. The expansion will consist of 3 new buildings that will be used for flight testing, as well as relocate some of its IT and engineering functions to the Wichita facility.

Vice President of strategic projects for Bombardier Learjet, John Dieker, said, “We are proud of the relationship with the city of Wichita. We are looking for that relationship to continue. This gives us the means and mechanism for that to continue. The company is negotiating with the state for an unspecified amount of incentives. That would be in addition to the 600 new jobs that the company committed to in 2009 in exchange for state incentives for its Learjet 85, a new all-composite aircraft to be assembled and finished in Wichita. The incentives were needed for the deal to make financial sense to Bombardier executives.”

Bombardier decided on Wichita as the number one area for the expansion due to the high concentration of skilled technical and engineering workers. The project is also aiming to expand upon the goals of the plant, to working on larger jets as opposed to just the light Learjet, another important benefit for Wichita.

Dieker commented, “This diversifies our workforce and gives us a greater stability within the organization as we weather some of the recessionary activities we’ve been in.” If the deal is approved work would commence in the spring with the initial payroll exceeding $47 million, with each job offering on average a salary of approximately $177,500.

The news was well received by all those at the press conference. Mayor Carl Brewer said, “With a project like this, the only thing you can say is, ‘Wow!’”

The Chairman of the Sedgwick County Commission, Dave Unruh, gave the project his support, “These projects are smart investments because they provide a positive return on investment.”

Robert Layton, the Wichita City Manager said, “The thing that is so important to us – and we don’t want to lose sight of this – is we’re diversifying our aviation cluster.”

To find out more about airport jobs and aviation maintenance careers like those that Bombardier could be offering in the near future, visit Airline Job Finder today and gain access to detailed information about airline jobs.

The Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida is set to be the new headquarters of an aerospace program developed by Boeing Co. that will bring an estimated 550 high paying engineering jobs and high paying aviation jobs to the area by December 2015. The new space program will focus on the development of a 7 man spaceship that will transport astronauts to and from the International Space Station.

Dubbed Crew Space Transportation-100, this program will ensure the smooth implementation process of the engineering aspects and manufacturing aspects all in one area instead of spread out over the country, which is currently the case. Since the space shuttle program retired earlier this year, many aviation and aerospace experts lost their jobs, and this program will once again see high paying jobs returning to the so called “space coast”.

The program manager of commercial programs, John Mulholland said, “We selected Florida due to the cost benefits achieved with a consolidated operation, the skilled local workforce and proximity to our NASA customer.”

The President of Space Florida, Frank DiBello, commented, “We are extremely pleased that Boeing will locate its commercial crew headquarters here in Florida. This positions our state well for future growth and a leadership role in NASA’s next-generation human space exploration initiatives. It is also a key factor in ensuring Florida’s space-related economy continues to thrive after shuttle retirement.”

The low orbit space missions, including carrying cargo to the International Space Station, are expected to be funded by private businesses, and eventually, NASA hopes that it will be able to send astronauts into space with the aid of companies like Boeing Co. They are one of the largest to jump on this opportunity and have already started developing the pressure vessel of the Apollo-like capsule, as well as the autonomous docking system and base heat shield.

Many people are excited about the establishment of the center at the Kennedy Space Center, especially those who lost their jobs recently as the shuttle program closed. The CEO and President of the Volusia Manufacturers Association, Jayne Fifer, said, “If you’re going to be building something, with all our manufacturers, I’m sure they can provide lots of services and capabilities.”

Phil Ehlinger, the Volusia County director of economic development, agreed, “I think that if in fact they are able to create the jobs that they’re hoping to, there are a number of Volusia residents that had worked there, and hopefully they’ll be reemployed, which is great.”

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University president John Johnson is hoping that internships will be available to his students. He said, “Embry-Riddle is in favor of any kind of job creation activity in the state of Florida, especially when it involves the aerospace industry. It will be a wonderful new initiative.”

Another fan of the program is U.S. Rep. John Mica, R-Winter Park, who stated, “It is vital that we maintain aerospace engineering expertise in Florida. I am pleased Gov. Scott is working to keep those valuable high-paying jobs in our state.”

The time for new jobs in oil and gas, especially in oil drilling is slowly rising, thanks to new approvals and leases by the U.S. Government, specifically in Alaska. Obama has recently approved 500 oil drilling leases off the coast of Alaska, and many other projects are waiting in the wings for approval. Many people are still suffering with unemployment and many blame the fact that there are no jobs, however they overlook the jobs that are there, but just waiting on approval from the relevant parties.

In Philadelphia, around 1000 oil jobs will be created thanks to the $400 million construction of 2 huge oil tanker ships which will take place in the historic shipyard. The Exxon Mobile project will see each tanker weighing in at around 115 tons, creating plenty of oil construction jobs as well as oil rig jobs when the project is over. This is great news for the American economy as a whole, not just Philadelphia.

Another project underway is that of a new steel mill in Youngstown, Ohio. The mill will cost $650 million to build and will create over 350 natural gas jobs related to the manufacture of equipment for natural gas extraction.

Many other projects have been analyzed in the oil and gas industry and it is assumed that they will bring in a huge number of jobs, but face certain obstacles and await government approval before commencing. In New York for example, about 40,000 gas jobs could be created if the go ahead was given to pursue the hydraulic fracturing process. This employment figure is if only 300 wells are drilled, but there are many more in the area. Currently, the New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is working to overturn the moratorium on the hydraulic fracturing process for the State understanding the risks, but also aware of the fact that each of these new jobs will pay in the region of $80,000 each.

Similarly the new Keystone XL Pipeline Project, which will boost oil and gas employment dramatically all the way from Canada down to the U.S Gulf Coast, is still at a standstill. Backed by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the pipeline is still waiting for approval from States like Nebraska. This halt is causing American’s to go without jobs, and according to a recent study released by Woods Mackenzie research company, if the red tape surrounding new local oil and gas production could be eliminated, or at least reduced, 1.4 million oil pipeline jobs and other oil jobs could be created almost immediately.

Aside from this, around $800 million in revenue will be seen and this will be in the form of high paying jobs, invested in by the private sector, not the tax payer. With all the facts and figures at your fingertips, you can see just how many employment opportunities are out there. They just need to be realized by the government approving the many oil and gas related projects that are all waiting.

If you want to be ready when it comes time for oil and gas industry hiring, you should check out all the available jobs on Oil Job Finder. Here you will learn all about oil and gas careers, and discover all the different kinds of jobs that are available in this sector. Aside from learning in depth information about each job, you will also find out more details about the different oil and gas projects that are currently employing workers, and discover what you need to study in order to get a job with any oil company.

Green jobs are all about making existing businesses more environmentally friendly or producing environmentally friendly services, and there are many green jobs in every industry. Whether the jobs involve energy conservation, producing energy efficient products, creating awareness, reducing pollution, or the conservation of resources, you will easily find high paying jobs in the environmental sector. Here are the 6 best high paying career options that are green:

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics of 2010, the average wage for a physicist was just over $106,000 annually. This trumps the wages of engineers, chemists, and even material scientists who also work in the solar panel industry.

Engineer

The solar panel industry requires many kinds of engineers including chemical, electrical, and industrial, as well as mechanical engineers who will all get paid high salaries of between $79,000 and $92,000 according to the BLS. High paying engineers can also work in the automobile industry producing electrical vehicles, and similar green cars. Working with architects on green buildings and construction can earn you between $76,000 and $84,000.

Biochemist / Biophysicist

There is expected to be high job growth in these two fields, as they study the relationship between living organisms and physics as well as the chemical processes involved. The salaries can be in the range of $86,000 per year and when looking at green jobs, one example can be in the research field, studying the effects of environmental chemicals and pollutants on the health of animals and humans.

Construction Manager

Any green building requires someone who understands the processes and procedures to oversee the construction, which is where a high paying construction manager comes in. Average salaries are expected to be in the $85,000 mark.

Geoscientist

A geoscientist is also a job that is expected to increase in demand over the next few years, as more and more people are looking for green alternatives such as oil and gas production that is also environmentally friendly. They analyze sites regarding water movement which will help aid contaminated areas and monitor coastline quality. You can expect to earn $93,380 per year in this profession.

Lawyer

A lawyer is one of the 100K jobs, and when you get to work in environmental law, you will experience an even bigger salary boost, more job openings, and get to help save the environment. A high paying lawyer can earn roughly $110,590 per annum, making this one of the most popular career choices, where you can work for construction firms and other companies that might frequently receive lawsuits from the Environmental Protection Agency, but also to bring lawsuits against those who are alleged to have harmed the environment.

So, you are looking for a high paying job, but you have no degree and have not attended a college. Should you just give up? Of course not! There are plenty of jobs that pay very high salaries where you need absolutely no degree whatsoever. Sound too good to be true? Well, to prove that these jobs do exist, here are the top 6 career options for those with no formal tertiary education.

Air Traffic Controller

As an air traffic controller, your job is to make sure that aircraft are kept safe when taking off and landing. You must also keep planes on course and to their correct schedules. As a new recruit you will earn about $17,800 per year, but you will receive training on the job, and as you gain more experience, you can eventually make up to $140,000 per year.

Bakken Shale

The oil industry has plenty of 100K jobs just waiting, especially in the Bakken Shale formation of North Dakota. This is like a modern day gold rush with jobs paying around $130,000 per annum with only 2 years of experience. Truck drivers who transport the oil out of the area are expected to make $100,000 and other jobs will see you earning a huge salary with little, if any, experience.

Powerhouse Substation Mechanic

Personnel are always required to work in substations repairing and maintaining the power supply of the town or city. On average this job pays $61,700 per year, but at the top of the group you can earn about $82,000. The training is intense and it is considered to be a dangerous occupation, but one where you only need a high school diploma to apply.

Elevator Mechanic

Not many people think about this as a career choice, but elevator mechanics are required in every town to ensure that building’s elevators run smoothly and to install new ones. These people earn in the region of $67,000 a year, but can make as much as $100,000. You do have to complete a 4 year course including classroom and on the job training, but you can do this without any other kind of degree.

Financial Advisor

Working as a financial advisor does not mean that you have to have any kind of finance degree, but you do need to be certified and you will get on the job training so that you can qualify. You will usually start out earning between $20,000 and $24,000 as an intern, but after about 5 years of experience many advisors earn more than $100,000.

Transportation Inspector

Many cities in the world, such as New York, rely heavily on public transportation, so there is a huge need for transportation inspectors to check and maintain these vital pieces of machinery. They keep the public safe and after only a few years of experience can earn $103,000 a year.

Time Warner is bringing 500 new IT jobs to the Tampa area. The IT and human resources jobs are a joint effort by Time Warner and the city for their opening of a shared services center. Governor Rick Scott and John Martin, the Time Warner Chief Financial and Administrative Officer announced that they would start hiring by the end of the year.

Governor Scott said, “This is a major announcement and breakthrough for our state, and shows that we’re doing the things it takes to make Florida the most attractive place for business to grow. My primary responsibility as Florida’s governor is to be our state’s chief advocate for job creation. That’s why I focus every day on economic development issues and identifying opportunities like this one to bring to Florida.”

Time Warner is reported to have invested $5 million in the project, half of which will be made before the state and local closing fund incentives are received. The rest will be a $1.5 million in tax refunds for each job created (Qualified Target Industry funds) and $900,000 which is from the Quick Action Closing Fund. There is an additional $450,000 incentive package offered by Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa.

According to Martin, “Time Warner looked at possible sites all across the nation, but we ultimately decided that the state of Florida was the best place to locate our new facility. Florida has so much to offer, including a talented work force, great beaches and most important to us, a great place to do business. You have created a business environment where we can feel good about investing today with an eye towards growing in the future.”

Many people in the area are excited about the opening of the center. “Time Warner’s services center is a welcome addition to the Tampa Bay business community and a major score for the state’s professional services sector,” said Gray Swoope the CEO and President of Enterprise Florida. “This announcement is proof positive that Florida’s business friendly environment is succeeding in producing new jobs from world-class companies.”

These high paying IT jobs are a welcome addition to the area and it is hoped that many more like it will be offered in other areas as well.
