In November 2009, South Africa’s only cruise liner company, Starlight Cruises, will launch the newest member of its fleet, the luxury MSC Sinfonia. This will be the largest luxury cruise liner to operate out of South Africa and will set sail on its maiden voyage from Durban to the islands and coasts around the Indian Ocean including Madagascar and Mozambique. The Sinfonia boasts 778 cabins, of which 138 have private balconies, and there are also many luxury facilities for passengers to enjoy. Costing about $72 million, the Smith Cove Cruise Terminal in Seattle, Washington opened on Friday the 24th April 2009, docking its first cruise ship the Amsterdam, the flagship of Holland America Cruises based in Seattle itself. This 2 berth cruise liner terminal has been constructed to assist Seattle in coping with the huge influx of cruise passengers and crew members, which this year is expected to reach about 801 000. On the 8th March 2009, the Pacific Asia Travel Association named the top travel destinations in the Asia Pacific area, with Australia, Hong Kong, and Japan right at the top for the year. In a recent survey done, most travelers would prefer to travel to Asia Pacific over the next 2 years. The survey consisted of 5554 leisure travelers from 11 different locations around the world, and 60 percent of them named Asia Pacific as the top place they would like to travel to.
