The newest member of the Carnival fleet, Carnival Magic, made its debut appearance in the U.S. serenaded by Grammy Award winning band Maroon 5 there to perform at the celebration in Galveston, the ship’s homeport. Over 4000 guests turned up to witness the 3690 passenger vessel sail into Galveston, Texas, after completing its Transatlantic voyage. They were then treated to an exclusive hour long concert from Maroon 5 set to the backdrop of the ship at Pier 21.

Carnival Cruise Lines President and CEO, Gerry Cahill, said, “Today marks a big day for Carnival Cruise Lines as we introduce the spectacular new Carnival Magic to its U.S. homeport of Galveston, Texas. We’re thrilled to celebrate the Carnival Magic’s arrival with a Texas-sized performance by Maroon 5, one of the country’s most popular bands.”

Carnival Magic consist of many new innovations in the cruise line industry, including the Caribbean style RedFrog Pub with its own private label beer, an open air recreation area called SportSquare, which boasts the first outdoor fitness area and rope course at sea, and the WaterWorks Aqua Park offering a 312 foot long water slide. There is also a wrap around promenade, called the Lanai, with an outdoor barbeque and luxurious whirlpools that extend over the side of the ship, and an exclusive indoor-outdoor live entertainment café called Ocean Plaza.

The arrival of Carnival Magic means a 28% increase in the number of passengers departing from Galveston each year. As it joins its sister ship Carnival Triumph, this is the largest capacity commitment by a cruise line to Texas.

The addition also means more cruise line work for local Texans and various land based tourism industry related jobs. According to a recent study, by Cruise Lines International Association, in 2010 Texas’ economy received about $1.1 billion from the cruise line industry, and around 16,457 cruise industry jobs were created. It is expected to rise even more in 2011 when the various week long itineraries on Carnival Magic begin taking passengers to the Caribbean and back.

Norwegian Cruise Lines’ newest ship, the Norwegian Breakaway is set to depart on its maiden voyage in May 2013, with bookings opening today (17th October 2011) for her launch in April 2013. The first cruise will depart from Southampton, UK on a 7 day transatlantic voyage arriving in New York where it will be based, offering year round cruises. She will embark on her maiden voyage on the 12th May 2013 travelling to Bermuda in a series of 22, 7 day cruises until October 2013. The Norwegian Breakaway can accommodate 4000 passengers and cruise liner jobs are plentiful.

Aside from the Norwegian Breakaway, her sister ship, the Norwegian Getaway, will also launch the following year in April 2014 and provide the ultimate in mega cruise liner luxury as part of Norwegian Cruise Lines series of mega ship called Project Breakaway. Many hospitality jobs are available on this cruise ship as well, so now is the perfect time to get your resume up to scratch.

The staterooms on board are magnificent and are described by Norwegian Cruise Lines as being “modern boutique hotel meets the sea” with special 2 bedroomed family villas offered along with contemporary Courtyard Penthouse suites. CEO, Kevin Sheehan commented on the design, “We’re trying to trend a little bit younger to bring a new group of people onto the ships.” These main staterooms each provide guests with a special access card to the Haven, an exclusive relaxation area consisting of a restaurant, cocktail bar, and concierge desk as well as a private spa and fitness center.

“We listened to our guests, we listened to travel agents and we listened to the press. We tried to take (into account) everything that people would say was not perfect on the Epic or what people would want and that we think would be very exciting,” said Sheehan. NCL has been working in conjunction with Tillberg Design of Sweden to design the new cabins.

The launch cruise will cost $749 per person, based on double occupancy, with tickets for the official maiden voyage in May costing $1199 per person, also based on double occupancy. It was announced that the Norwegian Breakaway would replace the smaller Star and that it would be the largest cruise liner to home port in New York. Currently it is still being built in the German Meyer Werft shipyard.

In an attempt to encourage more passengers from all over the world to explore the new ships that are set to improve the brand, Norwegian Cruise Lines has also just launched a new ad campaign with the slogan “Cruise like a Norwegian.” The video encompasses all aspects of the cruise life with different slogans, such as “Party like a Brazilian, “Surf like a Hawaiian, and “Dine like a Parisian”, ending off with the “Cruise like a Norwegian” slogan as the sail away party continues.

Sheehan explained that the new promotional material would appear on their website and other advertising spots, “The company has been working hard over the last four years to improve the brand and that they felt it was the right time to put forward this invitation to potential customers and also create interest in the brand. They are hoping that it will help people see them as one of the best possible vacation options for them.”

Cruise ship and cruise line jobs are coming to Portland, Maine. City officials made the announcement last week that there would be a new pier that has the capacity for the world’s largest cruise liners. The pier is 1200 foot long and will allow 2 large cruise liners to dock on either end at the same time. Mayor, Nicholas Mavodones, stood beside the Celebrity Summit berthed in Maine and said, “For us it means we can have twice the number of ships and twice the number of passengers and crew wandering about our streets. It’s huge for our downtown and Old Port because some businesses hire more people when cruise ships are in town. So they’re creating jobs in late summer and fall.”

At a cost of $6 million, the new pier has been discussed for more than a decade and will be funded by the transportation bond. With the recent popularity of Portland, eastern Canada and New England amongst cruise passengers, it is time that the city improved its facilities. There are 65 cruise liners scheduled to visit Portland during 2011 bringing with them over 92 thousand passengers.

The new pier can even accommodate the larger so called “mega-ships” as it will extend further into deeper waters. The Enchantment of the Seas was the first cruise ship to visit the new pier when it opened last Saturday. They will use the double berthing later in the month when 2 large cruise ships will visit Portland.

They hope to start getting in the region of Bar Harbor’s 115 cruise ships. Nicole Clegg, the City Spokeswoman said, “We’re using Bar Harbor as a guide to the number of cruise ships. They get almost double the number of cruise ships we have.” They also hope to get the Oasis of the Seas to visit, which is, to date, the largest cruise ship in the world, over 20 stories high and 5 times bigger than the Titanic.

If you want to find out more about the different kinds of cruise ship careers that you can apply for, whether they are shore based working in a port city, or on board some of the most luxurious cruise liners in the world, make sure you visit Cruise Job Finder today and become a member. Search for current cruise liner jobs and much more.

At least 200 new cruise ship jobs could be created in Galway Harbor in Ireland, beginning in the year 2013. The Galway Harbor company has €120 million plans for a deepwater Harbor development for cruise ships north of the Marina. In 2009 The Marina was recently upgraded for the Volvo Ocean race, now they are planning to host the largest cruise liners in the world. Executives from all the major cruise companies are visiting Galway Bay this month during the Galway Oyster Festival. They will visit various destinations in the West, including the Cliffs of Moher, and will listen to various presentations given about the tourism of the region and the potential for cruise liners to visit.

The Chief Executive of Galway Harbor Company even Bradshaw will give a presentation on the development of the Harbor plans on 23rd September. He also commented, “It’s a sector we really feel we can tap into and create at least 200 new jobs from. Galway Bay is famously scenic, and cruise passengers could disembark and be in a city streetscape within minutes.”

The planning application will be launched soon, and it is hoped that the construction will begin in 2013, following a hearing next year. By introducing an internationally recognized harbor here, it is hoped that business will boom, just as it has a in the port of Cork. This brings about €50 million to the southern region every year.

The delegation of cruise ship representatives will attend a dinner when they arrive in Shannon on Friday, 23 September. The next day they will visit the Cliffs of Moher and other attractions and then visit the Oyster Festival at Galway Harbor. Cruise companies like Royal Caribbean International, Norwegian Cruise lines Azamara and Crystal Cruises are all expected to be part of the delegation. They involve the trip on the Sunday after seeing all the presentations and spending time on the city’s High Street and Quay Street. So far this year, three cruise liners have visited the Galway Bay area and brought various passengers into the city. So far next year, seven cruise liners are booked.

With so much interest being shown in Galway Bay, and the huge developments taking place in the Harbor, several cruise ship jobs onshore and offshore are expected to be filled. To find out more about the different kinds of cruise liner jobs available, take a look at the Cruise Job Finder website and become a member. You will not only learn about the different types of cruise ship jobs that you can get, but you will also learn what is required before you can apply, in terms of qualifications and experience. This website goes into detail about salary expectations, working conditions and hours, and what to expect in general, living on board a cruise liner.

There is also detailed information about the different types of shore based cruise line jobs which involve admin office duties, instructor jobs, and shore excursion managers. With the large number of passengers expected to visit Galway Bay in the near future, it is expected that the job growth in the area will also improve. To take advantage of this opportunity, and many others like it make sure you read more about it on the Cruise Job Finder site and start applying for jobs today.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines is hiring 100 call center operators for its Springfield branch in Lane County. This is good news for the people of Lane County who currently have 17,000 people without jobs and who will also experience the loss of 450 jobs at the closing of their Coburg Factory which was announced earlier this month. The unemployment rate has been extremely high in this region with a rate of 9.4 % in July, so the cruise line employment is a welcome relief.

Lane County commissioner, Sid Leiken said, “Right now, where we are with the economy, it’s always good to hear firms here locally hiring more people.”

According to Jack Roberts, the Lane Metro Partnership executive director, “the pay differential between call center jobs at good call centers (such as Royal Caribbean, Enterprise and Symantec) and manufacturing is closing. Unfortunately, that’s partly because compensation for manufacturing jobs is declining, but it also reflects a rise in entry-level pay and advancement at call centers that are eager to attract and keep top-notch workers.”

The pay will vary because of the incentive structures, but the starting salary will be around $13.11 per hour. After 90 days, employees are also eligible for health insurance. Anne-Jenell Williams, the manager of consumer outreach sales and service said, “These are full-time, regular positions being brought on in preparation of ‘wave season’, the first three months of the year, which is the cruise line’s busiest time of the year.”

“Even with an economy that doesn’t look the brightest, we still know that vacations are important to people, and the vacation value of a Royal Caribbean cruise is unparalleled,” said Williams. “We still see the phones ringing, and we need people to answer them. There’s a lot of talk of movement of (other) departments. Because we have room to grow here in Springfield we’re always considered very highly on the list of those opportunities, so we look for that to continue.”

If you want to find out more about what is required of a call center operator working for cruise companies, visit Cruise Job Finder today and become a member. You will gain access to interviews and in depth information regarding call center cruise line jobs.

New resorts opening in the Bahamas and Australia are bringing over 800 beach resort jobs to those areas in the next few months. The development in Australia, called the Wyndham Hervey Bay Resort, cost $120 million and is situated along the Fraser Coast. It will offer about 100 hospitality jobs to the area and developer Charles Richards unveiled the resort group’s plans to attract tourists and investors.

He told local dignitaries and business leaders in a recent meeting, “The mass media buy would include setting up billboards promoting the resort and the Fraser Coast at hot spots around the country including Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport which has an annual tourist traffic flow of more than 63 million.”

He also stated that the development has been a long process and there were times during the global financial crises that hit the world, they were skeptical about even making it. They prevailed and because of this they are able to over 120 resort jobs to the region, and according to Richards, “at least 80 percent will be local”.

Yet another resort development costing about $900 million is planned for the south Eleuthera area of the Bahamas. This resort project aims to introduce between 600 and 700 cruise and tourism related jobs. The project involves the establishment of a cruise port along with 5 luxury resort facilities in the surrounding area.

It is estimated that between various construction jobs will be offered to locals when Phase 1 of the South Point Resort Project goes into development. The CEO of Beka Development, who is running the project, explained, “This is a five-six star property, with quality amenities and high standards of service, phenomenal golf courses with water views and a residential community. We anticipate doing on a separate parcel a cruise port, entertainment and retail district. We also anticipate that there will be somewhere between 500-1000 Bahamians employed on the construction phase under direct contract, and with support services and suppliers, there will be significantly more than that.”

He also addressed the resort employment on completion of the resort, stating, “On a permanent basis, the number of jobs in Phase I could be 600-700 people.”

The desire to introduce a cruise port to the area has been met with some concern although Mr. Evans has reassured everyone that they are environmentally conscious. He has also confirmed that his development would not be using Government land.

“We ultimately desire to put a cruise port in there. The cruise port generates a critical mass that supports a lot of the amenities package. We have looked at three different sites for a cruise port. All three sites, and whatever we’re doing, will be on private land, not government land. In our plans, we do not plan on asking the Government for any kind of Crown Land to do the project; all this will be done on private land.”

With regards to the environmental impact, Mr Evans said, “The cruise point would be designed such that no ‘cuts’ would have to be made in the ocean bed or coastline. The three locations have been looked at with environmental sensitivity, and in none of the three do we have to put in a cut into the beach or a cut into the ocean. We’re extremely sensitive to preserving the beauty and natural resources of land in the Bahamas.”

Marriott International, one of the biggest hotel chains in the world is aiming to offer around 50 thousand resort jobs by the end of 2011 and to help spread the word, they have decided to offer a Facebook game similar to the popular Farmville and Cityville games which have over 135 million active monthly users combined. This game, called My Marriott Hotel, will allow users to buy a restaurant and all the equipment needed to run it. They will hire and train employees as well as serve guests and all this while working on a budget.

The executive vice president of Marriott’s Global Human Resources, David Rodriguez says that they are looking to expand its markets outside of the United States and also looking to attract people between the ages of 18 and 27. “We must find new ways to interest them in hospitality careers. This game allows us to showcase the world of opportunities and the growth potential attainable in hospitality careers, especially in cultures where the service industry might be less established or prestigious.”

The game has been created in English, French, Arabic, Spanish, and Mandarin and currently has 12 thousand players with 270 thousand page views. It has been found that the majority of users are from the United States, India and Egypt.

At the moment, Marriott employs 129 thousand people around the world and future plans include 50 new hotels and resorts being built over the next 4 years including in Santa Fe, Saint Kitts, Guyana, Georgetown, and 24 others around the Asia/Pacific region.

To this end the game is expected to create a lot of hype around the job openings and also give people interested in a hospitality career a better understanding of what the resort jobs are about. Another way that you can find out about the different kinds of resort and hotel jobs is to join the Cruise Job Finder website. Here you can learn about all the different kinds of jobs working in the cruise ship industry, as well as in the resorts industry, and in the yacht crewing industry.

“It gives people a realistic view for the kind of decisions that have to be made and the pace of the work,” said Rodriguez. There is a link in the game, “Do It For Real” that will lead you to the company’s career recruitment page.

Social media is something that the hotel industry has embraced since it first started as a way to stay connected with guests, and the social gaming aspect that Marriott has taken is very unique.

Senior vice president for hospitality sales at Signature Worldwide, Holly Zoba said, “At this point they are taking it pretty seriously. They’re scratching their head still a bit wondering where it belongs. Is it a customer service thing? Is it a sales thing? I don’t think all of those things have been fleshed out – but they’re working on it.”

Rodriguez also commented about the importance of social media to the hotel business, “That’s why we’re in it. Our business is all about relationships. The relationship with our customers. The relationship with our associates. And in the 21st century, social media is absolutely an indispensable part of keeping strong relationships with these stakeholders. It gets to the point where if you’re not there you may not have a problem today, but if you’re not in there playing with it, you’re going to be missing a big piece of tomorrow’s relationships with consumers and employees.”

If you want to get one of these 50 thousand hospitality and resort jobs, you should join Cruise Job Finder and discover all the possible job options you have, where and what to study, as well as how to go about applying for hospitality jobs.

Two brand new resorts planned for Wales and the Hudson River Valley area are promising lots of new resort jobs. The world class resort planned in Wales is said to bring 600 jobs, whilst the new Rosendale will bring 1000 new resort jobs to the Hudson River Valley area, and inject roughly $200 million into the economy.

The Williams Lake Project in Kingston, where the Rosendale Resort is to be built will provide a much needed economic boost to the area, and businesses in the area were briefed about the specific details by Project Manager for Hudson River Valley Resorts, LLC Tim Allred. According to Allred, about 150 people would be employed per year for each phase of the construction, lasting approximately 10 years, with a total of 300 permanent resort jobs on offer when the resort is complete.

The resort will offer 130 hotel rooms as well as 160 residential housing units, a fitness center, day spa, meditation studio, wellness center, and an outdoor recreation area linked to the Ulster County rail trail system. The project is an exciting part of the growth of the area which is what Allred wanted to leave the business community with. He said, “The economic development benefits are dramatic, the jobs are much needed around here, and they are good quality jobs that fit in with what folks say they want for this region; green tourism and green technologies.”

As far as the Wales resort jobs go, 600 new hospitality jobs are set to be created in one of the most rundown parts of the country in Holyhead, Anglesey. The site was previously owned by Anglesey Aluminum and has now been purchased by Land and Lakes Ltd. The last 18 months have seen Land and Lakes (a subsidiary of the Kingmoor Park Properties Ltd) working closely with the locals to develop the resort.

The firm’s leader Richard Sidi said, “Our objective is to create a ‘quality destination’ leisure resort of national significance to provide a sustainable economic legacy for the area and we believe that there will never be a better opportunity than now to realize that objective and to boost the area’s tourism industry. This is a unique site in a unique location and we are hugely excited about developing our plans for this flagship leisure resort which will include extensive local amenities.”

Kingmoor Park Properties Ltd have indicated that the site is already a tourist destination, since it is located next to the Penrhos Coastal Park, but there are no accommodation facilities and recreational areas for people to make the tourism sustainable all year round. Anglesey County Council’s economic development spokesman Alex Aldridge, said, “Anglesey is already a well-known tourist destination, which attracts countless visitors each year – a quality development of this nature would add greatly to its varied tourism destination offer.”

The plan includes the construction of apartments, world class lodges that fit in with the natural surrounds, and facilities like a sports hall and indoor pool.

Aside from the increase in job opportunities for the area, the local businesses would also experienced a remarkable boost in sales, due to produce and supplies for the resort being sourced locally. Before any planning applications are sent away however, Land and Lakes wants to get the public’s opinion and will host various consultations and meetings in this regard.

The land of the old aluminum smelting business is currently being offered with the condition that the buyer generates at least 500 jobs for the area. Anglesey Aluminium, which closed its door in 2009, said, “As part of the drive to boost the local economy in Holyhead, we have signed an option agreement with a tourism development company which will allow the construction of a holiday leisure resort.”

First Minister Carwyn Jones commented, ”This development will significantly enhance the tourism offer of both Anglesey and North West Wales.”

To find out what kind of resort employment might be on offer, have a look at Cruise Job Finder under the Resort Jobs section.
