Charleston, South Carolina is a historic cargo port town, and many of its residents and business owners, along with city officials are positive about the proposal of more cruise ships, bringing cruise jobs to the area that will be encouraged by the development of a cruise terminal. The State Port Authority is looking at building a new $25 million cruise liner terminal on the Union Pier waterfront property along the Charleston Harbor and Cooper River. According to Joseph P. Riley Jr. the Mayor of Charleston, at a local community forum which was attended by 400 people, “This will create jobs. There’s no issue of Charleston becoming a cruise ship Mecca. We’re not the Bahamas.”

However, there are those opposed to the idea, namely the Coastal Conservation League, who has also submitted a proposal for the area to become a multi use office space and residential redevelopment, as per the Waterfront development in Chicago. “Very few cities in the world have dedicated prime waterfront property to cruise operations,” said Dana Beach, the group’s executive director.

Some of the residents do have problems with the development of a cruise ship terminal, citing traffic congestion, noise pollution, road closures, and tourist traffic as some of the reasons against the proposal. One resident, Leslie Scanlan commented that, “It’s an architectural invasion. A cruise ship is taller than the city steeples.” She justified this by referring to one of the longstanding city rules that new buildings should be shorter than the tallest of the church steeples in the city.

This historic city is not new to tourists, and just as the horse drawn carriage and bus tours are regulated, residents feel that the cruise ships should be regulated as well. Currently the plans for the terminal will increase the number of cruise ships from 90 to 104.

The CEO of the States Port Authority, James Newsome III, disagrees, saying, “I don’t know of a major port in the world that has a codified limit on the amount of business they can do. That would be bad for the port. Cruise lines are a niche market for the port, he said. “There are 4.5 million tourists in the city (annually). The cruise endeavor that we’re talking about is only 200,000 passengers. It’s in scale.”

The Preservation Society of Charleston is concerned about leaning too far in the direction of tourists and neglecting the city’s rich heritage. Evan Thompson, the executive director of the Society commented, “The sites that visitors come to see are houses that were built by multimillionaires in the 18th and 19th centuries and require major investments of private capital to maintain. We need to sustain and be vigilant about our quality of life and be sure we don’t tip the balance. We don’t want people to think that Charleston is for tourists only.”

There is no doubt that the new cruise terminal will bring lots of cruise employment to the area, from cruise line jobs on land, to hospitality jobs, to terminal construction jobs, and tour guide jobs. All that remains is for the terminal to be finalized and then new cruise line jobs will become a reality, and you can start getting your resume sorted out and learning about all the different kinds of jobs you could be applying for.

There are plenty of jobs you can learn about on the Cruise Job Finder website, and if you want to start applying for any of these cruise jobs, tour guide jobs, or yacht crewing jobs, you can do that easily by becoming a member and visiting the Job Board.

After her maiden voyage from Barcelona, Marina, Oceania Cruises newest fleet member was christened in the Port of Miami Terminal J on Saturday by none other than Entertainment Tonight’s Mary Hart. Marina is a magnificent 66 thousand ton cruise ship with 15 sprawling decks and a staff of 800 to wait on you hand and foot.

According to Oceania Cruises, Marina is “the most sophisticated and elegant ship to debut in the last 50 years.” With Ralph Lauren Home décor in the three, 2000 square foot Owner’s Suites and designer artwork decorating the entire ship, who are we to argue?

This $600 million floating gem boasts a shimmering double storey Grand Lalique Staircase, a total of ten restaurants, the much talked about Bon Appetit Culinary Center, which is said to be “the only hands on cooking school at sea”. Similarly there is an Artists Loft, where resident artists teach fine arts at sea with the most stunning scenery to inspire all. There is also a massive library and computer center, a fabulous Canyon Ranch Spa, small casino, huge designer suites with Jacuzzis, separate kitchens in some suites, as well as marble and granite clad bathrooms, and much more. Guests can get all this starting at $4400 per night with a free bottle of champagne to welcome them, wireless internet and laptops, as well as a 24 hour butler service.

Dining aboard Marina is prestigious with some of the best 5 star restaurants that Europe has to offer including Jacques (the first ever restaurant owned by the famous chef, Jacques Pepin), Red Ginger, Polo Grill, Toscana, Privee, Terrace Café, La Reserve and others.

The Oceania Marina can accommodate 1250 passengers and offer all the features and amenities that you could possibly hope to find on a luxury cruise liner, with the comfortable country club feel that is a hallmark of Oceania Cruises. Plenty of cruise ship jobs on the Marina have been filled, but there are some possible openings once the ship returns from her first voyage up to the Panama Canal for 18 nights which she left for on the 8th February 2011.

The Marina’s sister ship, the Oceania Riviera is due to debut in April next year and is said to be just as elegant and sophisticated, so keep your eye out for this one. Now is the ideal time to apply for cruise ship jobs on board the Riviera so here is where you can find out how:

If you want to learn more about the different kinds of cruise line jobs you can get and look into more detail at the various cruise ship positions, you should visit Cruise Job Finder. Here you can become a member and gain access to over 180 pages of cruise ship information as well as career information with regards to tour guide jobs, beach resort jobs and yacht crewing jobs.

Cruise jobs can include those on board a ship or in a corporate capacity on land, working in the admin or accounts departments, as well as at call centers. The best way to find a cruise ship job is to keep checking our website’s Job Board and be sure to search and apply for any jobs that catch your attention regularly.

As part of the process for working on a yacht, fire rescue and emergency medical training is required, however, many of the yacht crew don’t fully understand what you have to do in an emergency and how the time you have can be used effectively in a medical situation.

Recently, a yacht captain, Charles Dugas-Standish, waterskiing out in the Caribbean from his yacht, the Pegasus, had an accident and required emergency medical attention. After 3 grueling days not being able to understand the doctors there and having problems with getting airlifted back into the United States, he received his much needed surgery.

He says that if he and his crew has been fully prepared and equipped, that the entire process would have been much easier. Although all his crew are trained to handle medical emergencies, this one was particularly hard because of the language barrier and because of the medical procedures to get the captain back to his country.

The first thing to be aware of is that a yacht has hull insurance and health insurance, and the crew need to know the difference. The health insurance actually covers an emergency medical airlift, through the services of their Remote Medical Assistance Provider. Every yacht should have a remote medical assistance provider and each member of the yacht crew should understand how it works and who to contact in the case of an emergency.

In the instance of Dugas-Standish, their yacht already had the remote medical assistance provider in place which would have covered a medevac, the payment, and organized French translation services, but none of the crew knew this or how to go about using it. After his ordeal, the captain now makes sure that every member of his crew is highly trained and experienced in every possible medical scenario.

He has purchased a training doll called Annie and other medical equipment including CPR gear and defibrillators. He said, “Our guests range from 1 year old to 72. We have to be ready.”

The Captain added, “For crew, they have to train. Am I ready for an accident? Do I know the local resources? How would we evacuate? Is the equipment working? Do I know how to use it? Take backboards as an example. Not everyone knows exactly how to use one. It’s not like people don’t train, they do train, for fire, STCW. You just have to throw in more medical. I know why now, I have firsthand knowledge. Now, when I’m training crew, I say ‘This is real, you have to pay attention.’”

Whether you work on a private luxury yacht, or a megayacht, every member of the crew including the Captain, Mate (1st, 2nd and 3rd), Able Seaman, Deckhand, Chief Engineer, Engineer, Assistant Engineer, Oiler/Wiper, Cabin Crew and/or Housekeeping, Stewards, and even the massage therapists and chefs should be highly experienced in CPR and have medical training.

Medical training for a yacht crew is offered as part of your maritime training, but additional courses are recommended. You can learn more about these training programs and what kinds of jobs you can get aboard a private yacht or charter yacht, by visiting Cruise Job Finder. Once you become a member you will have access to over 180 pages of information about working on a cruise ship, getting a yacht crew job, or working as a tour guide.

Furthermore, you will gain instant access to the job board where current job openings are listed regularly that you can apply for to get the cruise job or yachting job of your dreams.

You will also learn how to write a great resume and application form, and find out how to nail your job interview. There are also insider stories so that you can truly find out what it means to work in the cruise line industry. To find the working vacation of a lifetime, join today!

If you have always loved the ocean, then you will find that there are various maritime jobs are most rewarding which can be found all over the world. The maritime jobs available are usually as deckhands for the unqualified, but you will still have to undertake some training to enable you to work on board a vessel.

The types of maritime vessels that you can get work on include luxury yacht jobs, tour boat jobs, ferry boat jobs, container ship jobs, oil tanker jobs, and cruise liner jobs among others. Depending on your experience and the type of qualification or certification you have, you could get the chance to Captain a cruise ship.

Other great maritime jobs include engine room jobs and deck jobs. You will either work above sea level or down in the engine room. The jobs on board ships and boats are normally paid according to rank and you will expect to earn the least as a deckhand. However, this is the best place to start your maritime career and you will soon work your way up to able seaman, 3rd mate, 2nd mate, 1st mate, and eventually to captain.

The engine room jobs start with the oiler who is responsible for cleaning the engine parts and lubricating them to ensure that everything is in good working order. You can get promoted to engineer, then on to assistant engineer, DDE, or designated duty engineer, and eventually to chief engineer once you have completed the various levels of training and qualifications that are required.

Working in the cruise industry is perhaps one of the more glamorous of the maritime jobs especially if you get to mingle with some of the guests and enjoy the luxuries of the many exotic destinations that you dock at.

Another luxury maritime opportunity is to find work on a luxury yacht. Many of these are harbored in the most exotic tropical island destinations and sail only a few times a year. You will have a smaller crew to work with, but you can expect additional benefits like free meals and lodgings as well as dental or medical if you are employed on a more permanent basis.

Tour boats are also exciting to work on board and you will get the chance to meet new people every day and enjoy some wonderful sights in the area where you work. The great thing about these kinds of maritime jobs is that you can do them anywhere in the world and have the chance to travel and see new places when you apply for any of these overseas marine based jobs.

To get any of the maritime jobs you will have to display very responsible behavior and show that you are dedicated and hard working. The longer you work on a vessel and the more dedicated you are to your job as well as to learning and training, the faster you will get promoted and start earning more money.

If you are interested in finding out what kind of qualifications you require for maritime jobs and how to find any openings, you should visit Cruise Job Finder and check out the Maritime Jobs section as well as the Job Board for the latest available jobs to apply for.

The world of boating is vast with jobs ranging from building and maintenance, to on board yacht crewing. Many crew members have revealed that the reason for yachting being so lucrative is that they have mentors to aid in career progression. One of the reasons that crew members are able to sustain a good career working on cruise liners, charter yachts, and private yachts is the ability to work their way up the ranks. Starting off as a deckhand is acceptable for many individuals, because they now understand that they will be taken under the wing of someone more experienced and shown the ropes.

Learning about yachting and what it takes to be the best of the best in the crewing world is something that will make or break your career. In order to get the best paying jobs and work on the most stylish yachts requires plenty of experience and intricate knowledge which someone can only learn through a mentor.

In fact some crew members say that they have more than one mentor on their yacht. A captain of 10 years recently revealed that he had no idea that money could be made from crewing on a yacht. He was given a job on a charter yacht in the Bahamas for 6 weeks by a crew agent, and instantly hit it off with the crew and captain, who mentored him from them on. Over the next 4 years, he learned most of what he knows today from the captain on that charter yacht.

In a recent survey, it was shown that women crew members had more mentors than men – about 74 percent compared to the 62 percent for men. According to further statistics, the types of mentors included previous crew captains, previous crew members, and previous owners. Many of the mentors are actually fathers who are teaching their sons or daughters about the industry in order to carry on the family business.

As far as contact goes, the survey indicated that only 10 percent of yachties are in daily contact with their mentors whilst 50 percent contacted their mentors occasionally when needed. The mentors for many captains and yacht crew are not thought of in that way. They are merely considered to be friends and co workers offering advice and helping out, however half the people who do not have mentors, wish they did. This shows how important mentoring is in any industry, including yacht crewing where most of the knowledge passed on can make a huge difference in the advancement of careers.

Looking at the frequency of mentoring, it is done occasionally as a now-and-again kind of thing, and many captains and experienced crew have wondered about the benefits of a formalized mentoring program and how this would help the yacht crewing industry in terms of hiring, work ethics, information, and sharing ideas. This is something that should be looked at in more detail and perhaps using a structured program will help yacht crews, and other employees of yachting companies, to improve their skills and grow financially as well as career wise.

Finding employment is tough, especially during a recession, but one of the most sought after jobs that isn’t really affected that much, is yacht crewing. Working on a yacht from the mega luxurious to the humble charters will ensure that you not only get paid a great salary, but that you also have the time of your life.

Exploring the world may be just the thing to get you out of bed in the morning, and when you work on a yacht you will get to experience new sights and sounds each day. There are many places around the world where yacht crews are in demand during certain parts of the year. It is all about being at the right place at the right time and knowing where to look. Here are some tips:

Fall is the time when most yacht owners head down to the Caribbean, and this means that they generally make a stop in Miami to find crew. If you are there at that time, you will be in luck! If you are interested in working for the entire season, you should look for yacht crew employment along the Intracoastal Waterway, because many captains like to get to know their crew before heading off to Miami.

During the Spring, it is the best time to find yachting work in St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. Martin, San Juan, and Guadeloupe as the yachts head northward again. The Panama Canal is also an ideal place to find yacht jobs as most work travelers pass through here. In the spring it is best to be ready for the Panama Canal and South Pacific cruises, so you should base yourself in Cabo San Lucas or La Paz to find work.

Bear in mind that Cyclone season is between December and March, and for this reason, most yachts will start making their way towards Australia and New Zealand. Nadi and Port Vila are great places to get involved and become part of a yacht crew. During August and September, you will have the opportunity to apply for yacht crewing jobs to Mexico for the winter season.

When you look for work on a yacht, you will have to make sure that you have the necessary skills. Some skippers will want qualifications, but generally speaking, anyone can get a deckhand job. You will however find it useful if you can speak other languages, know how to use and work computer equipment and electronics, can cook, sew or repair heavy duty materials, understand plumbing and mechanics, as well as various other things.

When you work on a yacht there are lots of other aspects that you should understand including the salary, working conditions, working hours, and more. You can learn all about these when you sign up to be a member of Cruise Job Finder. You can also use the Job Center to find the perfect yacht crewing job to apply for.

If luxurious living whilst earning an excellent salary is your idea of a perfect career, then perhaps you should take a look at some of the expensive yachts that belong to millionaires and the famous. Working on a luxury yacht is one of the highlights in most people’s careers, and the great thing is that luxury yacht jobs are always in demand.

There are various positions that you can apply for if you are looking for adventure as well as a travel opportunity. From deckhand, to chef, massage therapist, to engineer, the luxury yacht jobs are limitless. With the right qualifications and the perfect resume, you will have the ability to choose any job you like on board a charter yacht or luxury yacht.

The difference between working on a yacht, no matter how big it is, to working on a cruise liner, is the social factor. When you are on a yacht with fewer crew members and passengers, you get more opportunity to interact with people and work as a close knit unit.

With the vast number of jobs that you can find on a millionaire’s yacht, you will be able to work on the deck, below deck, or in the galley (kitchen). If you are well suited to life as a chief engineer, why not do it on board a luxury yacht where pay will better than many other places.

When it comes to learning your trade and getting the qualifications that you need, you should look at various maritime schools. No matter what positions you apply for you will still need to know the following:

Hygiene and health requirements at sea

Maritime terms, relevant qualification and certificates

Safety guidelines at sea

First aid course

With these basics you can apply for any yacht job you like. The type also depends on what you have trained to do. For example, you might be a chef or a hair stylist. Once you have completed your schooling, you can easily get one of these yacht jobs, after you have received a certain amount of experience. This can range depending on which yacht you work on.

Each employer will have different requirements, which is one of the things that you have to look at when choosing a luxury yacht to work on. You can go for the ones that travel around with one of the royal families on board, or you can choose the yacht depending on its location and itinerary.

The jobs that are being sought on millionaire’s yachts include the following:

Captain

Mate (1st, 2nd and 3rd)

Able Seaman

Deckhand

Chief Engineer

Engineer

Assistant Engineer

Oiler/Wiper

Cabin Crew (Housekeeping Department)

Stewards

Massage Therapist

Beauty Therapist or Spa Therapist

Personal Yoga Instructor

Hair Stylist

Pilot

Publicist

Manager

Assistants

Gourmet Chef and maybe one or two chef assistants

Diving Instructor

Nanny

With these large number of yacht job opportunities that you can get, it seems silly to let another minute pass you by. With a change of scenery and the ideal luxury yacht to work on, you will be living the high life. Get detailed information on Cruise Job Finder today and choose the job of your dreams in no time.

Travelling might be one of the things on your list when you graduate, or even throughout your life. The problem is that when we have work every day of the week from 9 to 5, travelling does tend to get left on the side lines. This means that only when we retire do we start planning our travels. Now, this might suit some people, but for those that want to see the world before they have to see it through bifocals, you should think about embarking on a working vacation.

Travelling while you earn a living is definitely a grand way to live, but not many people do it. They might decide that working on a cruise ship or for a beach resort is not a real job. A lot of people think that you need to study and settle down somewhere to be a success. But why not work in all different locations for numerous companies throughout your life.

You can easily find perfect jobs that are suited to your skills and qualifications that take you across vast ocean and to exotic locations. You could find yourself teaching aerobics on a state of the art cruise liner headed for the Caribbean, or you could work in the finest beach restaurant in Europe.

Whatever beach resort job or cruise ship job you want to apply for you will find that there is high demand. The cruise industry for example, is the best market to work in at the moment, as sales are continuing to rise despite the economic downfall. New terminals and cruise ships are being built all the time which means that jobs are always available.

So, why is a working vacation beneficial?

Well, there are a number of reasons that you should work while you travel. If you are just one of those people who can’t stay in one place or one job for very long, working in different locations in various job capacities will curb your curiosity and boredom while allowing you to make money.

You can also earn quite a lot of money on a cruise liner or at a beach resort which is another great reason to apply for a hospitality job in one of these tourism industries. If you love to travel and learn about new cultures and new destinations then why not make money at the same time.

It will save you the trouble of working in a boring job you might hate, just to save up enough money to take a trip. This way you can have the best of both worlds. You will also get coverage for medical and disability insurance depending on the company that hires you.

The great thing about getting a travelling job is that you will also get to meet lots of interesting people from all over the world. You can learn a lot about other cultures and get to work in an exciting environment. Who knows? You may even get to learn a new language!

When you decide that you want to work on a cruise ship, private yacht, as a tour guide, or at a beach resort, you should bear in mind that you can do this as a part time gig while you study or just after you leave school to get some great life experience. You can also choose to make a working vacation your full time career. If you want to find out more about getting a great travel job you should become a member of Cruise Job Finder and check out the job board.

There could be many more yacht crewing jobs available in Didim, Turkey thanks to a brand new marina, D- Marin. This resort town, which is frequented by British, American and other European vacationers, is expected to provide about 650 new jobs for people working on yachts as well as in the marina. The marina has 1050 berths for mooring as well as dry dock capacity.

With the yacht crewing sector it can be expected that most yachts docking here will be private ones from all over Europe. The infrastructure cost about 75 million Dollars and the Director of Management stated that it was a dream come true to have this new marina in Didim to boost the tourism industry.

The construction of the marina is unique in the fact that it is an environmentally friendly one. There are for example, going to be 112 thousand tress planted in and around the marina. With the importance of this marina to the development of the Turkish tourism industry as well as the economic implications, the Ministry of Transport and Communications has mentioned that there are about 22 other marinas in the planning stages. This is said to cost about 750 million Dollars.

The main aim of increasing the number of marinas is to double Turkey’s percentage in the shares of the yacht tourism industry in the Mediterranean. Currently it is at 5 percent and is hoped to reach ten percent in the near future. This move is part of the Prime Minister’s plan to make Turkey one of the top ten economies by 2023 by restoring confidence in all areas of the country.

The yacht tourism industry in Turkey is one of the best examples of places where you can get one of many available yacht crewing jobs and jobs in hospitality. You can work on the marina where you will be able to find work in certain shops and restaurants. You can also apply for private yacht crew employment where you can get a job as a deckhand, captain, masseuse, or as a gourmet private chef.

With yacht crew employment in the private sector you will find that experience is necessary and most of the time, you will need to have qualifications. If you are planning to work on board a yacht as part of the crew you will need to have the relevant maritime certificates and first aid. If you want to be involved as part of the hospitality crew you can easily apply for these positions with your degree in hospitality, hotel management, or tourism. For the appropriate positions you should have also attended culinary school, cosmetology school, massage therapy school, or had some other kind of training.

If you want to find the best yacht jobs that are offered in the Mediterranean, especially in Turkey you should have a look at the job board on Cruise Job Finder. You will have full access to hospitality and yacht crewing jobs anywhere in the world. You can also do a search for the top employers in the yachting sector and find out the best times of year to travel to certain locations. You can find out how to apply directly to companies online and also post your resume for employers to find you. There are so many options in the member’s area, so don’t hesitate to join today!
