The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has made 5 students very happy recently as the Science and Technology Council has once again offered their exciting 10 to 12 week internship program. The lucky students will get to meet and work with some of the top names in the film technology industry including Industrial Light and Magic, Rhythm and Hues, and Pixar Animation Studios.

Elizabeth Cohen, the internship’s program chair, said, “The Tech Council’s interns are selected for their academic excellence and their potential to make contributions to the future of the motion picture industry. The mentor-guided programs provide science and engineering experiences that will power enduring innovation and cultivate a profound appreciation of the cinematic art form.”

The 5 students selected for this prestigious internship program are:

Yunfeng Bai from Cornell University will be hosted by Industrial Light & Magic

Yeon Jin Lee from the University of California in Berkeley will be hosted by Pixar Animation Studios

Alex Pagliaro from the Rochester Institute of Technology will be hosted by the Science and Technology Council

Xinxin Zhang from the New York University will be hosted by Pixar Animation Studios

Yunfei Bai from the Georgia Institute of Technology will be hosted by Rhythm & Hues Studios

The students will get real life experience during this internship and it is one of the most sought after internships if they want to work in film technology, as a graphic designer, a sound engineer, in research and development and other film segments. When you get to intern with one of the most famous organizations in the world, it is an honor you can’t possibly turn down.

Aside from the internships in the film industry and other large corporations, you can also apply for government internships if you want to get into the industry of your choice and get first-hand experience of what the job is like.

Aside from being able to get a foot in the door, an internship is another great way of finding out whether or not you enjoy the type of job that you are working towards. Some people might have high hopes of being a lawyer, but once they intern at a law firm, they could take a step back and realize that they don’t actually enjoy the work.

It is easy to love working in film, but there are certain aspects to the technology and development side o things that these students might find challenging for example the long hours. There are always pros and cons to working in any industry, and an internship, paid or not, will give you the knowledge and experience that will let you decide whether you can live with the cons.

If you want to find out more about the different types of internships you can apply for, make sure you visit Internship Finder.

A government summer jobs program has just started in the Philippines, in the province of Capiz with 800 jobs being offered in various positions working in education and the like.

With schools all over the country coming to a close shortly for the summer vacation, summer job offers are flooding in from all over. This year’s job outlook for summer employment has been much better than last year, which was recorded as the worst year since 1948, largely due to the recession. This said, many of the summer positions that are offered for teens and young adults will be unpaid, but the experience received is priceless.

“The economy generally is picking up,” says one of the management professors at Virginia Commonwealth University, Robert Trumble. “If unemployment keeps inching down … it increases opportunities for teens in the summer.”

Summer work functions as an opportunity for school goers to see what jobs are out there, and it lets them figure out what they like and what they don’t like. The plus side is that they get to keep busy during the holidays and make some money at the same time.

According to the U.S Department of Labor, the statistics showed that the unemployment rate over July for teens was 19 percent, and although it is not expected to be as bad this year, students are encouraged to apply for summer jobs early to avoid disappointment and to avoid missing out on all the best opportunities.

According to Michael Erwin, a senior career advisor with CareerBUilder.com, the competition will be stiff for part time summer jobs. “Teens are running into college students and running into adults who have been out of the workforce for a while. They will have to be scrappy to get jobs.”

One other aspect to consider is that due to the shutting down of various federally funding youth job programs, it will be much harder for students to find summer employment opportunities. The loss of this stimulus money is hitting Baltimore hard, where 5000 students signed up for their YouthWorks Program, to help find summer employment for the 14 to 21 year old age group.

Brice Freeman, a Mayor’s Office of Employment Development spokesperson, said, “The program, which uses government funds and private donations to pay the youths’ wages, is about $1.5 million short of hitting its goal. Unless the money is raised, more than 1,000 youths who registered won’t get a job.”

To counteract the loss of the stimulus money, the government came up with a plan. The Labor Department announced a campaign here businesses are encouraged to hire 100,000 students across the country this summer. Banking giant Wells Fargo and Blackberry maker, Research in Motion have offered 1000 jobs, with 1500 teen summer jobs being offered by UPS.

Trumble encourages the youth, “Get moving now. Don’t wait. Summer may seem far off to teens, but not to employers that plan ahead. The more ambitious teens are already knocking on doors.”

The Whitehall Internship Program offered by the British Government is a way for those from disadvantaged backgrounds to learn about civil service careers and give them more experience in this field. Whitehall is divided into three government internships, all of which cater for a specific demographic, namely undergraduates, graduates, secondary school students, and college students. The three internship programs are as follows:

Fast Stream Summer Diversity Internship

This is for undergraduates and graduates and is designed to help develop a students’ skills in civil service as well as offering career prospects and providing an understand of what the civil service offers.

College Level Internship

This government internship is aimed at 16 to 17 year olds and is designed to offer school leavers work experience in the civil service for two weeks to gain insight into the industry.

Secondary School Level Internship

This internship is aimed at 13 to 14 year olds and is a simple day long program. Students will get to meet and talk to senior figures, whilst building their knowledge of the civil service as well as getting to work in a professional environment.

The college and secondary school level internship programs will be debuting for the first time this summer, and will be fully functional by summer 2012.

The Minister without Portfolio, Baroness Warsi said, “Obtaining an internship often depends on who, rather than what, you know. Many talented young people miss out simply because they lack the necessary contacts or face financial barriers when internships are unpaid. These schemes will give students a real start in life by not only providing skills and experiences that they can draw on when looking for jobs but the programs will broaden their horizons and raise their aspirations.”

Following these internship programs being announced, it was also announced that no informal internships would be offered anymore starting from 2012. The head of the Civil Service, Sir Gus O’Donnell commented on the internships on offer, “We need people who are passionate and have a sense of pride about delivering and improving services, have a professional approach to their work and are flexible and adaptable to change. The Summer Diversity Internship Program is developed to give an insight into the wide ranging opportunities across the Civil Service.”

The 2nd Annual InPursuit Internship Conference was held in by University Career Services (UCS) in Norris on Sunday 17th October 2010, where over 200 students were given accurate information and advice on how to land an internship. Various sessions were held over the afternoon including networking, internship strategies and search resources, resume writing, self marketing and self assessment.

Many students were grateful for the information with some learning how to give the correct impression for an internship interview, and others finding out how to network effectively. The conference lasted for 5 hours and all 200 students walked away more prepared, more enthusiastic and more determined to get that internship that they have always wanted.

Many of them wanted to gain an advantage on the competition as many students will be vying for the same internship programs.

One sophomore student, Rose Fang said, “I actually learned a lot, ranging from how you should smile and do your handshake, to different things like what type of people you should be looking to meet, what type of people should be in your network, and how to present yourself.”

Compared to last year’s event, this one was geared more towards upperclassmen as well as the sophomores and freshmen, so that everyone got some first-hand advice, whether they are just starting out or are more advanced in how internships work.

One of the seniors, McCall Vollum said, “I learned a lot about networking, not only the importance of it but that networking is mostly about the effort that you put into a connection. It’s about the initiative.”

She got to put those networking skills to good use along with other attendees at the networking session at the end of the conference. Fang also stayed for the end session, who commented, “Based on how they say you should start relationships and how to maintain those relationships, I think it’s really great for how I would apply it to my future: maintaining a network of relationships and really using that network.”

If you missed out on this conference, then make sure you keep an eye out for the Internship Initiative on the 11th November 2010 held by UCS where networking will be discussed in more detail.

You can also find out more about internships by visiting the Internship Finder website. Here you will learn about the different types of internships that you can get including paid and unpaid ones. You can get advice about how to apply for internships and what to do to prepare for any interviews. There are plenty of tips that you can get when you sign up as a member. You can even find internship programs on the website and apply for them right away.

There are government internships, corporate internships, and foreign internships which can all be found on the website. The best thing to do is to keep checking the Internship Job Board regularly for any new internship programs that have been posted by employers.

Even with a slowly recovering economy, companies are still hiring a lot of interns, and a recent survey, done by CollegeGrad.com, has revealed exactly who these companies are. This is great for those of you who are studying and want to further your career in a certain field by gaining as much experience as you can. For companies, the benefits of offering internship programs are huge. They can hire interns on a for credit basis, which saves them money and gets various jobs done at the same time.

The results show that Southwestern is the number one hirer of interns for the year. They basically do this for sales based jobs, where the students will earn commission off any sales they make, door to door, from books, CD ROMs and website subscriptions. This is different to the way an internship normally works, where companies hire an employee for a job as an assistant in the office to learn the ropes and earn a small salary if possible, or just academic credits.

The survey has also shown that internships in aerospace and defense have been increasing, while those in banking and retail have been slowing down. You also get those who have been hiring interns for many years and have specific programs established to hire a certain number each year including PricewaterhouseCoopers, and General Electric. In these kinds of corporate internships, you will gain the most traditional interning experience getting face time with executives and learning in depth corporate knowledge. With these kinds of internships, there is also the additional advantage of the internship leading to a full time career after graduation.

This is what a recent survey by National Association of Colleges and Employers found.

“Students with internship experience were more likely to have job offers upon graduating and had median salaries of $45,301, nearly 31% more than the $34,601 made by those with no internship experience.”

Hiring is still happening frequently thanks to the poor economy and unemployment rate across all industry sectors. If you are hoping to get an internship then you should check out Southwestern or any of the other top United States hiring firms including Walgreen Company, KPMG, Ernst and Young, Target, Intel, Microsoft, and ExxonMobile among others. You can easily find out more about their internship programs by visiting their websites or you can quickly find and apply to be an intern through Internship Finder.

Here you will also have the chance to find out more about what being an intern involves, how to be a successful intern and get tips for when you apply for intern jobs. With the various companies hiring interns all over the country, you now have a good idea as to who the best companies are to approach and apply with, whether you want to earn some extra cash during the summer holidays, or to earn extra credits for your studies.

Being an intern gives you the opportunity to find out what kinds of careers you enjoy and will allow you to have first-hand knowledge and experience of the industry you are thinking about establishing a career in.

There are plenty of college students out there who have heard of interning and many realize that this is one of the most important aspects to getting a job once they have graduated. For many though, an internship is just a job where you don’t get paid. This is why internships are so necessary and why the internship programs are offered in so many companies.

First of all internships exist all over the world and many interns choose to work abroad to gain valuable life experience while still learning about the industry they want to eventually work in. This is usually done over a summer vacation or as a gap year program.

The main benefit of internships is to get a foot in the door and to gain experience in your field. It is all very well studying for 4 or 5 years and being the best in your class, but many companies do not want the best on paper – they want the best in a real life situation.

Another reason why interning is so important is that it gives you the chance to earn academic credits which are important for your college or university graduation. Most companies will look at these credits very seriously before hiring you, so it is good to have as many as you can get.

If you are fortunate enough to find, apply and get a paid internship, you will get first hand real life experience working for a company. This gives you not only an idea of the working environment that you will be getting into, but also the prospects you have for advancement. This is important for revealing your true nature and if you actually want to work in the industry you are studying for.

Many people think that becoming a lawyer or working in the government is what they want to do and then when they find out more by completing an internship program, they change their minds. Interning is done in most corporations and businesses and is another way for a company to find a new staff member without going through hundreds or thousands of applications. They already know you and know how you work and have also been able to train and guide you in their way of doing things.

This is all very helpful when you apply for a job, and most interns actually get offered a job with the company they interned with. So, in a way, interning is like your very first job interview for when you leave college.

This is why it is very important to do it right. Learn more about what you have to do to be a good intern and learn about the best ways to apply, fill out the applications and get involved by visiting the Internship Finder website. Become a member and you have full access to detailed info and the job board where current internship opportunities are offered.

Internships come in many shapes and forms, but in the fashion industry, interns are normally paid and have an in depth look into the world of fashion. Whether you become an intern at a design studio, for a fashion designer, or fashion magazine, you will learn all about what it takes in this cut throat world and if you are the kind of person who will succeed.

Fashion internships for the summer are often offered in New York and other major fashion centers where you will spend your time learning from the best of the best. Some duties will involve buying fabrics, assisting the designer, working in management positions, financial assistance, and preparing fashion shows or fittings. There are lots of areas in fashion that you could be stationed, and some positions might include brand positioning, social networking, graphic design, and public relations.

The type of fashion internship you get will depend on the company that offers it. The fashion houses and fashion designers will require an intern with creativity and design flare to work under them and most will offer you a full time position once your internship and your studies are complete. You could also find yourself interning at a fashion retail outlet, where your job description would be far less creative and more business orientated. You will have to decide which one offers you the ideal job opportunity that you desire and which one opens up the most doors in terms of job advancement.

Now, you might expect that a career in fashion will be glamorous and exciting, and while this is true to a degree, you have to also be aware that it is a life of stress and constant critiques. You have to have a thick skin, or get one very quickly, to be able to handle this kind of work. This is why fashion and design internships are so great. They offer interns a first-hand experience and will let you decide how you best fit in. If you can hack it, then you are normally offered a position there full time after you graduate.

This is one of the internship opportunities that everyone should take if they are interesting in working in the fashion industry, or in fact any area of design. Being a designer means that you always have your ear to the ground and you always stay one step ahead of your competitor. You have to learn where to source the best fabrics, where to get the best pattern makers, and how to pull off a new and dazzling collection season after season.

Internships in fashion houses will give you these tips and help you to find your feet as a designer and a place in the world of fashion design. All great designers started off working for a fashion house at the beginning of their careers. For those more interested in the business side of the fashion world, there are tons of managerial and marketing based firms that you can intern at where you will provide assistance to high end clients with various aspects of their business such as development, financial planning, brand management, distribution development, manufacturing, media design, and sourcing among other services.

Whatever type of fashion career you want, you can always find great internship opportunities on the Internship Finder website along with great advice about how to be a successful intern.

One of the best things that you can for your future in any chosen career is to apply for the various spring and summer internships that come along. There are tons that will help students to learn more about the industry that they are interested in, whether it is in the medical field, in the corporate world, in engineering, the government, and many others. Becoming an intern is a surefire way of securing your future in a company as well.

Most students look at the paid internship positions, but these are not always readily available, and the demand for them is high as you can imagine. There is nothing wrong with accepting a non paying or for credit internship, where you will still benefit by accumulating academic credits which go towards your degree.

Whichever types you decide on and whichever internships you come across that you can apply for during the spring and summer months, you should be sure to use the internship advice and tips that are offered on Internship Finder to help you be the best intern you can be. Currently there are internship offers for undergraduates to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa College of Engineering’s High Performance Computing Applications in Engineering Research Experience for Undergraduates Program, known as HARP.

Another popular choice for interning is to go to the Walt Disney Company and many hospitality internships are offered at Disney World which provide the students with a once in a lifetime opportunity and valuable experience is gained here.

If you are looking for something more governmental, there are various internships offered in the Department of Justice, at the White House, and many other places where you can make a difference and see the inner working of the country.

Most of the time, people tend to look for internships that they will find or get easily. This is not the thing to do if you want to excel in your chosen professional and make it into a top company when you graduate. Most interns are actually offered jobs at the companies where they intern, so it is highly important to make the right decision about where to intern and about the type of internship you get.

If you want to learn more about a specific industry that is based overseas or that operates out of a different State, for example, you should not be afraid to take the proverbial “bull by the horns” and apply. Remember that when you become a member of the above mentioned website you have all the resources at your fingertips to make an excellent intern.
