In the wake of the huge success following the Fifa 2010 World Cup, South Africa is ready to take on bigger and better things, and are talking about putting in a bid for the 2020 Olympic Games. Gideon Sam, the president of the South Africa Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee confirmed that South Africa would be bidding on either the 2020 or the 2024 Olympic Games. This would also be the first time that these historic games would be held on the African Continent. According to Sam, the International Olympic Committee is very eager to give developing countries the opportunity to host the Olympic Games. “I can’t say that we will be going for 2020 or 2024, but we will be guided by the sporting movement in this country as to what we are going to do,” he concluded. The maiden voyage of Norwegian Cruise Lines newest ship, the Epic, took place from Miami on the 8th July and was met with some mixed reactions. This uniquely designed ship offers everything you can possibly imagine on a cruise ship including wave-like cabin designs instead of the ordinary box shaped ones, as well as plenty of entertainment to keep you busy, an authentic Irish pub with bowling alleys, tribute shows, and much more. The brick walls give it a distinct look, and whilst many people fault it for being ugly, one can only compare this to the iconic Eiffel Tower, which was also once considered an eyesore. The Epic is described as impressionist and would fit in perfectly with works by famed artists such as Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. To tie this in, the Le Bistro French r...

The natural gas pipeline that is being developed in Alaska, Trans Canada, in accordance with Exxon Mobil, could soon be joined by BP-Conoco Phillips, which has a project called Denali running a pipeline to the Lower 48. There is a $40 billion budget for building the pipeline, so for a while it has been assumed that only one of the projects would be chosen anyway. These discussions were leaked by an anonymous source not authorized to reveal details on the project, but according to a spokesperson for Denali, he was aware of no such discussions, although did say that they are “considering involvement of any entity that adds value and takes on risk.” The number of oil and gas jobs has increased since the announcement of the development of both pipelines, and now with the opening of...

According to a recent survey, it seems as though the level of customer satisfaction for most airlines is improving with Southwest Airlines at the top of the list for the 17th year in a row. United Airlines brings up the rear. The survey was conducted by interviews with various passengers who were asked about the flight attendants, the food received and the overall flight experience. It seems as though the biggest problem people have with the airlines and flying in general are the fees that are now charged for items that were previously free, such as checked luggage. The survey results showed that Southwest also have the friendliest flight attendants with the least-friendly flight attendants voted from United Airlines and American Airlines. When looking at the survey results for items that ...

Over the last 3 months, the number of oil rigs in North Dakota’s oil patch has increased by 25 percent. The overall number of oil rigs now operating in the patch is triple what it was a year ago, says the state Department of Mineral Resources. Could more North Dakota oil jobs become available? The huge growth has been attributed to numerous factors including the BP oil spill which has prompted many companies to drill on land instead of offshore. Another factor is the strong crude oil prices of late, coupled with the weak prices of natural gas. On Monday the 14th June 2010 crude oil from North Dakota was fetching $75 per barrel, which is a $25 improvement from last year. Currently North Dakota’s oil patch is home to 127 oil rigs, mostly drilling the Bakken Shale and the Three Forks-Sani...

Since the closure of hundreds of airports all over Europe due to the “ash cloud” from the volcano eruption in Iceland in March 2010, the aviation industry has taken a huge knock and lost billions in revenue. Luckily things seen to be back on track and airlines, as well as airports are recovering as air travel is once again picking up.
