Thanks to a Quebec based labor-sponsored fund, Fonds de solidarite FTQ, $8 Million has been invested in video game company, 7GEntertainment, in order to aid video game job creation. They will use the money to launch their video game hosting and publishing services, helping to create about 100 new gaming jobs over the next 2 years.

The deal was announced by Fond de Solidarite (Solidarity Fund) just one week after the video game company well known for its Tomb Raider franchise announced a huge expansion into Montreal. This expansion is set to create approximately 250 video gaming development jobs by 2015. This means that video game producer Eidos will receive a $2 million boost from the Quebec government.

According to CEO, Anthony Brown, ”For 7GEntertainment, the city is an ideal economic environment for the publishing and hosting services we provide.”

In Ontario, funds have also been invested to help job creation in the southwestern area. A total of $20 million will be allocated each year towards job creation. This announcement was made by Premier Dalton McGuinty during a tour of Digital Extremes, a London based game developer. He praised Digital Extremes for their achievements on becoming one of the top video game developers. “I’m not known for going to extremes,” McGuinty joked, “but this company is emblematic of the creativity and hard work Ontario can harness.”

President of Digital Extremes, Mike Schmalz, commented, “This is a really big deal for London and a really big deal for our company. We’re going up against the best the world has to offer. This is the best team in the industry.”

While job creation will see some video game jobs being offered, many manufacturing jobs are also expected to be made available with money from the fund. If you want to learn more about video game jobs including video game programming, development jobs, gaming animation jobs, game designer jobs, video game sound engineer jobs, video game background artist jobs and many more, you should visit Video Game Job Finder today and become a member.

Turning your passion for sport into a career is the goal of many, and with sports management jobs, including becoming a sports agent, you have the ability to do just that! With semi professional and professional athletes so pressurized to perform well in order to start and maintain their careers, sports agents are needed to manage their business for them to let them concentrate on their games.

Senior vice president of IMG and global director of golf clients, Clarke Jones, explained how he got into the business, “I liked the idea of being able to combine two interests, business and sport, in my career. While that was what led me to the business initially, there have been so many learning opportunities and great experiences in the industry that I didn’t realize would be possible at the time.”

Sports management, however, is not a simple job and no matter how big a sports fan you are, competition is cut throat. According to Adam Pincus, a South University Online legal instructor, “Becoming a successful sports agent is definitely considered to be competitive. There are four main professional sports leagues in the United States and there are only so many players in each league. So there is, to some degree, a limited amount of clients to represent. Athletes typically hire sports agents to represent them in contract negotiations with their respective team, or to field offers from several teams if the client is a ‘free agent’ and available to sign a contract with any team.”

Although sports are highly competitive from high school level, Gary Glick, the president and founder of Synergy Sports, says, “A college football player cannot sign with a sports agent until after the last game of their senior year. Although I cannot sign them during the football season, I observe the players by scouting the football games, maintaining contacts with different schools, and attending agent-player week. Most of the schools in the Big 12, have agent-player week. As an agent, you have to be registered in the state and with each school. Through that system the school knows who you are.”

Through this system, the process of athletes signing with agents is done fairly and legally. The names of the eligible players are given to the agents who will be sent an invite to the agent-player week.

So what do you need to do as a sports agent? Well, 99 % of the time, once an athlete has signed with an agent, they work with them for the duration of their sports career. Your responsibility will be to look after your player, ensuring that they get the best possible representation, by creating a hype around them. You will need to negotiate contracts with teams, sign advertising deals, create marketing partnerships, and be on hand to guide and support them through the many issues that will come up during their career.

Jones says, “It’s rewarding to see them succeed because you know you’ve done your job for them.”

Another aspect to being a sporting agent, considered number one by Steven Jeffers of Elite Sports Agency, is to ensure that all the laws and guidelines of the various athletic associations are followed. Jeffers commented, “The second-most important function is to maximize our client’s worth to teams in which we are negotiating a contract for. At times we have to take less to become successful and that also includes our clients taking less money to have better opportunities in the near future and prolonging their professional careers.”

Pincus added, “Much like buying or selling a home, the agent needs to be aware of the fair market value of their client and factor in any other particulars that may be relevant to the negotiation.”

As you can see, getting a sports agent job requires a lot of preparation, research, and great negotiation skills in order to become a success. To learn more about how to become a top sports agent, visit Sports Career Finder right away.

When looking for an internship to join, the main goal is to not only find one that will help you to further your career, but that will also pay you. Paid internships have been getting a lot of attention of late, as many believe that the unpaid internships are unethical. This said, many students also struggle to land the paid intern positions, because of the high demand for them. However, there are certain paid internships where the competition is very low.

These include internships currently available at the Cal State Fullerton’s College of Engineering and Computer Science in the College of Business and Economics department. These internships are different because students are not required to complete an internship in order to graduate in this area of study. This means that there are a low number of applicants for excellent paid internship positions.

The three areas of study are engineering, finance and accounting, and at the moment only have 22 interns in engineering, 4 in finance and only 3 in accounting. According to the Center for Internships and Community Engagement, these are also the internships that pay the highest.

Associate director of the Center for Internships and Community Engagement, Dawn Macy, said, “These internships happen in businesses. There are a lot of academic internships that occur in schools and nonprofit and those don’t have the ability to pay interns. It could also be that since these fields do not require students to do an academic internship, so in order to get academic interns they have to make it more inviting, more appealing to the students.”

According to Susamma Barua, the College of Engineering and Computer Science’s associate dean, the internships are not compulsory for graduation, but highly recommended to facilitate finding a full time job. “The companies are happy with the students. A lot of them, after the internship, actually hire the students as part-time employees. Very often the students turn that into a full-time job and they get their degree. Our students are expected to work with engineers in the company on a project that the company is working on. They expect our students to have analytical capabilities and understanding of the basic engineering concepts.”

The engineering interns usually get plenty of practical experience. Wally Portacio, an Engineering Major, enjoys the level of responsibility given to the interns. “In a smaller company you become everything since they have minimal resources. They put more responsibility on you compared to a bigger company where you can be doing nothing. I like the challenge of actually getting more responsibility. If anything it makes me a lot better as a student and as an engineer,” he said.

The internship program has been very well received by employers who want to expand the number of internships offered. If you want the chance to get a paid internship opportunity like this, visit Internship Finder today and join.

Chiquita Brands International, which deals in primarily in bananas, and is one Cincinnati’s most profitable companies, has announced that it will be moving its headquarters to Charlotte, NC and bringing about 400 high paying jobs to the area at the same time. The move is expected to be complete at the end of 2012 and comes after a $22 million incentives deal was put on the table by a economic development panel in North Carolina.

Ohio lost out to North Carolina after only offering a $6 million incentives deal, as opposed to the $20 million in state incentives that NC is offering. The local government is offering a further $2 million, making the total $22 million, which is going to be used to fund close to 418 high paying jobs in research and development. The deal was approved by the Economic Investment Committee on Tuesday.

The chairman and CEO of Chiquita, Fernando Aguirre, said in a statement, “After an extensive review of our capabilities and needs, we are confident that Charlotte is the optimal location for our business and that our decision to relocate is in the long-term best interest of our company, customers, employees and shareholders.”

Aguirre thanked Cincinnati at the introduction in Charlotte, stating, “I want to thank the citizens of Cincinnati. They have treated us extremely well. The fact is we needed to make decisions to help our business, not just in the short term, but the long term.” Many of the Cincinnati employees are being offered a relocation package, but for those that cannot move, the high paying positions are open for applications.

Spokesperson for the Ohio governor, explained why they did not match the incentive offered by North Carolina. “We’ve got to be a good steward of taxpayers’ dollars and that means making sure that incentive packages give taxpayers the right return on their investment. We’re not going to be irresponsible and give away the store to try and keep a company that fundamentally doesn’t want to be here or which has already made up its mind to leave.”

Currently Chiquita employs around 20 000 people and with its huge global market, executives agreed that the relocation to Charlotte would mean more efficient air access to its locations across Latin America and Europe, where it currently does most of its business. There has been discontent over the last few months with the airport in Cincinnati, which does not offer as many international nonstop flights as Charlotte does. Flights have also been declining over the past few years with Cincinnati’s only European destination being Paris, down from 5 flights in 2005. Nonstop flights and daily departures are also down more than half of what they used to be 5 years ago.

This summer is set to be a good one in Australia, as over 3500 summer jobs are currently on offer along the popular Gold Coast. Theme parks, hotels, retail outlets and fast food outlets are all hiring now, and if you want to secure a summer job it is suggested that you apply as soon as possible, as most of these jobs will be gone by Christmas.

It is expected that over 3 million people will visit Australia’s Gold Coast this summer and the summer jobs on offer are a welcome change from the high unemployment rate that the area has been experiencing of late. This was around 7% with the national average at just over 5%. Gary Black, executive director of the National Retail Association, said that in the retail sector alone, around 3000 jobs are being made available leading up to Christmas to account for extra long shopping hours and busy stores.

There are also expected to be approximately 580 summer theme park jobs at local establishments including DreamWorld, Movie World, Sea World, Wet ‘n Wild, Outback Spectacular and Village Roadshow. Jobs include that of ride operators, attendants, security guards, lifeguards, and other interesting positions. According to the manager of Village Roadshow, some of the summer jobs will be made permanent after the summer vacation, allowing staff to stay on.

With so many summer jobs now available in the Southern Hemisphere in places like Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and South America, among others, now is the perfect time to get your Visas and work permits sorted out and get great summer employment lined up. You will not only enjoy an amazing vacation in these parts of the world, but can earn some extra spending money while you are there.

In the summer, the most popular jobs include those of servers or waitrons, as the restaurants and cafes are all packed with tourists. Hotels and resorts are also very busy, so bar tending, housekeeping, or joining as an instructor are all excellent jobs. Other top summer seasonal jobs that you might be able to apply for include babysitting jobs, dog walking jobs, house sitting jobs as people go away for the Christmas holidays, event planning assistant jobs, photography jobs, entertainer jobs, outdoor adventure type jobs backpacking or guiding, and many others.

If you want to learn more about the many other types of summer jobs out there, have a look at Summer Job Finder and become a member to gain access to over 180 pages of detailed information. Aside from the jobs, you can learn about different employers, how to apply for jobs, where to find jobs, and the salaries or wages that you can expect to earn from each job.

According to Blue Ridge Biofuels, it can recycle cooking oil to create diesel energy and provide jobs to the people of Asheville. The BioDiesel can be used to heat homes and to power diesel vehicles. The recycling process will also help the Metropolitan Sewerage District as the grease will not clog up the sewer system.

The Biofuels Center in North Carolina has set up and funded a special pilot program in Asheville to place collection bins around the area, including landfills. The Blue Ridge Biofuels business administrator, Melita Kyriakou, said in a statement, “The more oil we collect, the more we can ultimately bring to Blue Ridge Biofuels to convert into clean, green biofuel to sell back to local residents. This will in turn increase production and decrease cost of biofuel within the region while decreasing the amount of tax dollars spent on sewer repairs.”

While other biofuel companies rely on soybean oil to manufacture their products, Blue Ridge relies on ordinary vegetable oil collected from restaurants, schools, camps, and is now asking the public to contribute in order to aid the recycling process. While the majority of cooking oil is shipped out of state to be used in animal feed at around $3,50 a gallon, Blue Ridge Biofuels can now make use of it locally and provide plenty of oil jobs in the process. Blue Ridge is working together with Green Opportunities, to facilitate the collection of the oil from recycling bins.

Aside from being environmentally friendly, the cooking oil biodiesel is also in par with ordinary diesel in terms of price, averaging $3,70 per gallon, although due to the tax exemption, consumers will save about 5 cents per gallon by opting for the recycled biodiesel. Many companies including those in Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the City of Asheville are now using biodiesel in their fleet of trucks and many homeowners are also turning to this form of energy to heat their homes.

The biodiesel that Blue Ridge sells is a blend containing some petroleum, and this is done due to the fact that pure biodiesel will begin to turn into a gel at below freezing temperatures, which are experienced in Asheville and surrounding areas.

The founder of Blue Ridge Biofuels, Woodrow Eaton, said, “Phones are steadily ringing now at Blue Ridge Biofuels, where customers are ordering biodiesel for their home heating furnaces. Biodiesel is currently cheaper to use than straight petroleum diesel.” Prompted by some concerns from customers, he also added, “There’s no smell of french fries to their product. “If you’re getting any kind of smell from your furnace, that’s a problem you need to get fixed.”

Around 37 recycling bins will be placed around Asheville and surrounding areas, which will be recognizable by their bright orange labels. There will be blue 55 gallon drums, as well as black 100 and 300 gallon drums. They will be placed at the following places, River District Recycling Center, North Asheville Recycling Center, Buncombe County Landfill, Henderson County Landfill, and Madison County Landfill among others.

Working in the gas and oil industry, also means being employed in green or environmentally conscious companies such as Blue Ridge. To learn more about the kinds of oil and gas jobs you can get, including those that are green, visit Oil Job Finder. Here you will find out what jobs are available, what you can expect to earn, what qualifications you require, and what level of experience you need for each position.

In just one year, the video game industry has grown by 46% in New Zealand to 359 full time video game jobs during this period. 21 game studios were reviewed in September by the New Zealand Game Developers Association (NZGDA), the vast majority of which are New Zealand owned.

Chairman Stephen Knightly commented on the exciting news, saying, “Unlike some other kinds of tech startups, interactive games studios have a large addressable market hungry for product and can generate cash-flow reasonably early in their history.”

The gaming companies interviewed for the survey were developing 59 games collectively with 77% of them having published their own original games. The New Zealand economy is steadily increasing thanks to the largely export centered gaming industry, with Knightly adding, “Globally, the games industry already earns more than Hollywood and local developers are getting their share of that pie.” Digital distribution also aids sales directly to a global audience.

The survey also showed that over the last 3 years they have increased their production of iPhone games and other mobile device games by a whopping 73% and 42% producing online browser games. The total number of android games produced was 35%, the same amount as PC games which are downloadable. The number of console games produced was 30%.

Due to its location, New Zealand easily and quickly adopted the digital distribution method of getting its games out to a wider audience and they are now noticing the positive results of that investment. In fact 99% of all New Zealand video games are aimed at international export.

Over 114 gaming jobs were added over the last 12 months with 99 new video game development jobs expected to be added next year. Of these jobs 40% are expected to be game programmers, 40% will be for game artists, and 20% will be for managers.

The Bombardier Learjet facility in Wichita is awaiting approval for a $52.7 million expansion, which is set to bring over 400 high paying aviation jobs to the Wichita region. Along with tax abatements, Bombardier is also requesting an investment of $1 million towards the expansion from city and county governments, as well as $2 million from an economic development grant that the Airport Authority is applying for. The expansion will consist of 3 new buildings that will be used for flight testing, as well as relocate some of its IT and engineering functions to the Wichita facility.

Vice President of strategic projects for Bombardier Learjet, John Dieker, said, “We are proud of the relationship with the city of Wichita. We are looking for that relationship to continue. This gives us the means and mechanism for that to continue. The company is negotiating with the state for an unspecified amount of incentives. That would be in addition to the 600 new jobs that the company committed to in 2009 in exchange for state incentives for its Learjet 85, a new all-composite aircraft to be assembled and finished in Wichita. The incentives were needed for the deal to make financial sense to Bombardier executives.”

Bombardier decided on Wichita as the number one area for the expansion due to the high concentration of skilled technical and engineering workers. The project is also aiming to expand upon the goals of the plant, to working on larger jets as opposed to just the light Learjet, another important benefit for Wichita.

Dieker commented, “This diversifies our workforce and gives us a greater stability within the organization as we weather some of the recessionary activities we’ve been in.” If the deal is approved work would commence in the spring with the initial payroll exceeding $47 million, with each job offering on average a salary of approximately $177,500.

The news was well received by all those at the press conference. Mayor Carl Brewer said, “With a project like this, the only thing you can say is, ‘Wow!’”

The Chairman of the Sedgwick County Commission, Dave Unruh, gave the project his support, “These projects are smart investments because they provide a positive return on investment.”

Robert Layton, the Wichita City Manager said, “The thing that is so important to us – and we don’t want to lose sight of this – is we’re diversifying our aviation cluster.”

The oil and gas shale boom of late has improved the U.S jobs market dramatically. This comes in the form of oilfield services such as the manufacturing of drilling equipment, pumps and pipes. Since September last year there has been a 10.3 % growth in the mining, oil and gas field machinery sector with gas shale jobs rising steadily, despite the otherwise dismal employment rate. Economist, Brian Davidson, with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, said, “The rate of job growth is noteworthy,” comparing it to the total non-farm employment which rose only 1.2 % by the third quarter of 2011.

Oil and gas production giants, Halliburton, reported huge earnings for their third quarter and have announced that they will be hiring about 11,000 oil employees in the U.S. this year. They have invested $18 million into the North American sectors of their business to aid service delivery and improve its manufacturing infrastructure for future international growth. Another major oil manufacturing company, National Oilwell Varco (NOV) have also reported excellent earning and are looking at offering 5000 more oil jobs this year to aid in their production growth.

Some oil companies such as Chesapeake Energy have also decided to delve into the manufacturing side of things to meet demands, largely their own. They established a division known as Compass Manufacturing in 2007, when the boom first hit the U.S. To keep up with production, they have just opened a new 40,000 square foot assembly facility, and are hiring 75 people in the Oklahoma region through to the middle of 2012. They are looking to offer 700 oil jobs in total across their entire company during 2012.

Chesapeake Energy, produces valves, hosing, control systems and various other oil and gas products, working with many other companies, such as Nomac Drilling, who have been asked to build new rigs for natural shale gas, as well as to retrofit existing ones.

Steven Miller, Chesapeake’s senior vice president of drilling, said “Nomac is a great proxy for what shale has done to the market. Nomac didn’t exist 10 years ago and has gone from a startup in 2001 to more than 130 rigs now.” The plan to increase their staff to over 3500 next year and speed up production to 150 rigs next year.

James Minmier, the president of Nomac Drilling added, “For every well drilled in the US – and there are tens of thousands drilled each year – up to 200 people come and go across that well. All are high-paying jobs that infuse dollars into local communities.”

The gas jobs growth is a direct result of the new technologies that have allowed oil and gas companies to economically extract gas from shale rock, which before was too tightly packed to easily extract the gas.

James West, of Barclays Capital, an analyst of oil field services, said, “3.5m of horsepower in pressure pumping equipment will be added to the US market in 2011, and the same amount is likely in 2012. The US is adding $8-$10bn in economic activity just to build equipment to produce shale.”

According to research, the U.S. will soon become the largest producer of oil and gas on a barrel of energy basis, probably by the year 2020, overtaking Russia and Saudi Arabia.

The Alaskan Energy for Jobs Act has been announced by the House Natural Resources Committee, which will open up the oil reserve in Alaska’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Representative Don Young said that the Act would allow for “future energy production and job creation”. This Act is expected to be included in the recent Jobs Bill announced by the House of Representatives a week ago.

Young also commented, “As former chairman of both the House Natural Resources and Transportation Committees, I am proud of the fact that I am the only Member to pass both a highway bill and a bill opening ANWR out of the House. With the Highway Trust Fund struggling to stay in the black, we must find new sources of revenue to fund infrastructure projects. This is a common sense plan; the revenue generated from drilling in ANWR will help keep the Highway Trust Fund from defaulting and will create jobs at the same time.”

According to recent estimates by a recent Geological Survey, the Refuge has about 10.4 billion barrels of oil, and the Act will make half a million acres of the Alaskan coastal area available for drilling and production of this natural resource.

According to the Act, the Secretary of the Interior is set to “establish and implement a competitive oil and gas leasing program for the exploration, development, and production of the oil and gas resources of the coastal plain of Alaska, to ensure secure energy supplies for the continental Pacific coast of the United States, lower prices, and reduce imports, and for other purposes.”

Of course there will be special protections put in place for various areas of the reserve that are to remain unaffected, namely the 4000 acres surrounding the Sadlerochit warm water spring. The bill says, “The Secretary, after consultation with the state of Alaska, the city of Kaktovik, and the North Slope Borough, may designate up to a total of 45,000 acres of the plain as a Special Area if the Secretary determines that the Special Area is of such unique character and interest so as to require special management and regulatory protection.”

Future Alaska oil production jobs and Alaskan drilling jobs in the ANWR region could mean relief for many people in Alaska who are struggling with unemployment. Although it will still take time to come about, the new Act is also set to repair and create infrastructure which will only improve the economy of the area and aid job growth and development.
