The 5th in its fleet, Queen of the West is the newest of the American Cruise Lines’ ships. It was acquired by the company and is now being upgraded ready for its first voyage into the Pacific Northwest on the 7th August 2010 from Portland. This 230 foot cruise ship will travel to various ports including Portland, Oregon, Clarkston, and Washington and provide passengers with its new one way itineraries. If you are thinking about getting an American Cruise Lines job, then this might be the perfect opportunity before the Queen of the West’s first departure.

The other ships in the fleet include the American Glory, American Spirit, American Star, and the Independence which you can also find cruise ship jobs with. There are plenty of jobs available onboard from crew, to housekeeping, and working in the kitchen to getting entertainment jobs or retail jobs. For the 2010 season, American Cruise Lines is opting for a more relaxed cruise atmosphere with the one way itinerary, and lots of shore excursions planned for each cruise.

The upgrades that the Queen of the West is receiving will make it more accessible, comfortable and friendly, as per the American Cruise Lines spirit. The 17 staterooms onboard are being changed to private balcony rooms, with a new library lounge created on the third deck, where guests can relax and sit back with a good book at any time. Passenger comfort is key and to this end, American Cruise Lines are introducing new furniture to the dining areas and the other lounges on the ship for added comfort.

The main cruising for the Queen of the West will be Snake River and Columbia Cruises, with its exciting 3 storey high paddlewheeler. The Queen of the West is in fact the first overnight paddlewheeler to be operated in the West in 80 years. It can carry 120 passengers, which will make your cruise relaxing and peaceful. Unlike the old fashioned versions which relied on a steam engine, this ship’s paddlewheel is operated by biodegradable hydraulic oil using its revolutionary and environmentally friendly hydraulic propulsion system.
