The Hernando Country Airport in Florida currently has 100 businesses on its land which spans 2400 acres. These 2400 acres only accounts for about 26 percent of the available land under that airport’s name. It is hoping to attract yet another large company to lease 100 acres of the land for free which is set to provide 500 more jobs in the aviation industry. The airport’s director Don Silvernell says that the proposal, which was recently approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will be a great boost the economy of the area as well as beneficial to the airport itself and it is set to create 500 job opportunities for the people of Brooksville, Spring Hill, Ridge Manor, Hernando Beach, Masaryktown, Weeki Wachee, and Lake Lindsey.
The benefits that were presented to the commissioners include the infrastructure for the proposed areas would help other companies in the industrial park, and that grants could be obtained if a large industry was secured for the area. Silvernell and the director for the business development in Hernando County, Mike McHugh, are currently working on the finer details such as deadlines for responses to the offer and where it is to be advertised. They will be looking for certain industries that are qualified for the airport’s land 50 to 100 acre, and they are hoping that out of about 30 or 40 proposals, at least a half dozen meet their requirements, which includes putting up a $25 million capital investment, and creating 500 or more jobs, which are really needed in this time of recession.
Aside from offering land for free for the next 20 to 30, Silvernell also mentioned that there were other factors that he believed would attract more large-scale corporations to the Hernando County area, than to other Counties nearby.
