Oil Rush in West Africa Receives Global Attention

in Job Search, Oil Jobs

For years West Africa has been in the midst of various civil wars, making it an undesirable place for oil companies. Due to the recent calm political climate and the discovery of 1.8 million barrels of oil in Ghana and surrounding countries, international oil and gas companies are taking notice. Thanks to the Vancouver based Gold Star Resources who is involved in a large portion of the on shore project, along with the US President, Barrack Obama’s foreign policy, the African continent is becoming more and more popular for overseas oil and gas exploration, therefore opening up many more job opportunity in the oil industry.

The African countries like Liberia are also promoting these hydrocarbon reserves to companies around the world. For junior companies like Gold Star it is a big step, because no one is developing the onshore oil fields off the continental slope and shelf. All the major oil and gas companies are competing offshore for block along the coast. With the major oil rush, all the counties in West Africa (expect Cape Verde and Burkina Faso) are taking certain measures to promote the oil fields, including Cote d’ Ivoire, Liberia, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and others.

Gold Star has recently signed with Ghana, a letter of intent, detailing that they will receive 100 percent of the hydrocarbon from the mine. This oil and gas company is on the forefront of all oil and gas dealings within West Africa, as they gained access by taking a 90 percent share in the IRSLE or International Resources Strategies Liberia Energy in early January.
