With the three year mark being reached yesterday in London leading up to the Olympic Games in 2012, it seems that all is on track for the event. Sebastian Coe, former British Olympic gold medalist, and chairman of the London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games stated that everything was going according to schedule and that they have already followed through with many of the promises made during the bid in Singapore four years ago.

The aim of hosting the Games was in part to rejuvenate the East side of London and provide more jobs for people during the harsh economic times of late. Currently the Olympic Parks and stadiums have provided more than 4000 jobs for those in construction, engineering, and other industries. There have also been more jobs for those in marketing, business sectors, and sports related fields as the city prepares to host both the Olympics and the Paralympic Games.

With the core promises being delivered, Coe reports that they are on track to offer even more jobs in the coming months. There were 2 events held recently which have also sparked jobs, and more interest in sports, art and culture across the UK. The first was a three day open weekend which offered more than 750 events to people to try out. Then there was also the marking of the “three years to go” until the Opening Ceremony with the Javelin Train running the same route it will run in three years time.

These events have created hope and interest for the people of London. They can be assured that more sports jobs will be opening up and that business will boom. It is expected that there will be more than 75 thousand business opportunities by 2012. Currently the Olympic Delivery Authority has used 935 companies for their plans, which works out to about £3.5 Billion worth.

Coe also mentioned that the Olympic Committee did not want to simply create stadiums and parks for the Games. He wanted to create a legacy to last for years after the Olympics were over. So far with the stat of the art Aquatics Center that has been built as a gateway to the Olympic Park, they have already succeeded in meeting the need for a top swimming facility in the city, where the professionals can train. They are also working to create other infrastructures that will improve London and the overall sporting industry in the UK.
