North Dakota may be offering new oil jobs in the near future as the Energy Department has awarded the state with $457 000 for researching the possibility of a new oil refinery. The state hopes to raise the capacity for refining oil to assist with the fuel shortages, profiting from the resource rich Bakken Shale oil formation.
With hundreds, possibly thousands of oil job openings that this new oil refinery could bring, you should look at getting into the oil industry. The many jobs that are needed will pay a high salary even during a time of economic decline. People still need oil and even though the oil prices fluctuate dramatically, especially of late, a career in oil will still be highly lucrative.
In North Dakota the Bakken Shale formation is thought to have billions of barrels of oil. This is according to the latest tapped wells in the Three Forks-Sanish region that geologists have studied. Director of mineral resources for North Dakota corroborated this find saying, “I think it’s a big deal, and we’re pretty fired up about it.”
The Bakken Shale formation covers over 25 thousand square miles and the fields within this radius all produce on average 800 barrels per day. Some wells have recorded up to 4000 per day on an exceptionally good day.
There Could be a New Oil Formation in North Dakota
The main reason for the excitement is that the Three Forks wells are not tapping directly into Bakken Shale. The geologists are still not sure if they are just catching run off from the Bakken Shale of if this could be an entirely new formation altogether.
The latter would of course be preferred and could also mean thousands more new jobs available for oil drillers, roughnecks, geologists, engineers, derrickhands and more. According to Whiting Petroleum Company that has been drilling both Bakken and Three Forks, the core samples indicate that the Three Forks is very likely a new formation which has hydrocarbons and therefore even better than the Bakken Shale.
If you want to become part of the oil industry and earn a good sum of money including excellent overtime pay, you should apply for a job working in North Dakota, either at the oil fields, at the pipelines, or at the refinery. The feasibility study for the new refinery will be completed by 2010, which means that you could possibly apply for one of the many jobs that they will have available very soon into the new year.
This means that you can work in any oil refinery job you like and that you are qualified for. You can also get jobs in the oil industry even you have no formal education. You will get training on the job and can work your way up to one of the better jobs. You can still earn a large amount of money without a degree working in oil.
