Three cities are in the running for the 400 or so airline jobs that are up for grabs since Republic Airways Holdings Inc purchased Midwest Airlines and Frontier Airlines. The three cities in the running are Milwauake, Indianapolis (where Republic Airways is based), and Denver. The 400 airline jobs are linked to heavy airline maintenance and airline reservations.

The three cities are vying to host the 400 jobs to build up the economies in each area with Denver already committing to job creation costing $ 1 million and various training tax credits. It is not yet clear which city will be chosen and according to the spokesperson for Republic Airways, the airline jobs could even be split amongst all three.

Of the 400 positions available, 250 of them are in aviation maintenance and parts. This will involve working at the warehouse and working on the aircraft. These jobs require a certain level of education and to work in maintenance you will be expected to produce a very comprehensive resume of qualifications and experience. The kinds of airline maintenance jobs you can apply for when the decision is finalized in November include:

    • Aviation Maintenance Technician (Aircraft Mechanic)
    • Powerplant Mechanic
    • Airframe Mechanic
    • Aviation Maintenance Technician
    • Aircraft Maintenance Specialist

The remaining 150 jobs will be positions in the airline reservations field working at a call center. This does not require that much in the way of a degree, but you will have to undergo some very specific call center airline reservations training. The current call center is located in New Mexico and will be moved to its new location when talks are complete.

Each city has provided Republic Airways with a package indicating its incentive program and job creation proposal. The company will review these to make a decision as to where to award the 400 jobs. In Milwaukee the General Mitchell International Airport offers very low enplanement costs and this could be the one thing that stands in their favor. The enplanement costs are the price that airlines pay airports for the passengers they carry. The low costs charged at Mitchell could be the deciding factor for Republic.
