Thanks to a partnership between China Aviation Industry Corp (AVIC) and General Electric Co. (GE), 200 new aviation industry jobs are expected in the United States pending regulatory approval in mid 2010. The joint venture will allow avionics equipment and systems to be exported from both countries. They are to be integrated into the new commercial aircraft.
Jobs in the Aviation Industry
The bidding will start on the new Commercial Aircraft Corp single aisle 168 seat plane. This will be in direct competition with the Boeing 737 model, and the Airbus A320. They also aim to compete with companies including United Technologies Corp.’s Hamilton Sundstrand and Rockwell Collins Inc., as well as Honeywell International Inc. The agreement was signed in Beijing between GE Chief Executive Officer, Jeffery Immelt, and the President of AVIC, Lin Zuoming.
The partnership will offer avionics equipment out of GE’s China Technology Center in Shanghai, and this will also consist of a new commercial aviation center. The 200 jobs that are to be created in the US are mainly at the GE facility in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
With the ventures, it is hoped that GE will continue to expand its strategy called “country to company”. This plan aims to produce its world renowned products within emerging countries. In the next five years it is expected that these markets including those of India and China, will make up at least 50 percent of the Fairfield, Connecticut Company sales. In total, the sales outside the US are expected to increase by 60 percent.
