Getting to Know the Different Types of Internships

in Internships, Job Search, Paid Internships, Unpaid Internships

When you look into getting an internship from a company you will usually find that it falls under one of two categories. It might be a paid internship, or it could be for-credit. This means that you will either get paid a salary just like every other employee, which is usually an entry level salary, or you will have to work for free, but you will receive academic credits towards your graduation instead. The type of internship you get will depend largely on the type of job you are looking at and the industry it is in.

With most of the corporate internships like those in law, finance, or and real estate, you will normally get paid, but of course, the higher the salary, the more competitive it will be. For the internships in entertainment, arts, and education, you will receive credits which can be very useful in terms of your studies.

When deciding what internship to go for, you should not be swayed by the money. If you are interested in a career in education, then don’t just look at the internships which offer payment, because you could end up missing out on the best internship opportunity for you that is for credit. Rather look at what each of the internships has to offer you, and find the program that suits you the best, and that you think will offer you the most in terms of education, experience, and job possibilities for when you have graduated.
