Cruise lines were under the impression for many years that guests would prefer 10-14 day cruises due to the vacation time in the United States, but lately with more and more Europeans taking cruise vacations, the 7 day cruise is on top. The 7 day cruises are extremely popular not only amongst the European passengers, but for those from North America, they can experience cruising for 7 days and then spend the remaining time exploring the fantastic port destinations.

After the announcement from Norwegian Cruise Liner’s Epic that they would mainly be offering week long cruises, the second largest cruise ship in the world, Liberty of the Seas from Royal Caribbean also announced that they would be offering week long cruises in Barcelona. Barcelona seems to be the number one port for the 2011 season and most cruise ship jobs will be available on the many cruise liners coming here.

Another ship to announce its return to Europe is Carnival Magic the largest ship from Carnival Cruise Lines. With just these three ships this means that there will be about 12,000 new beds weekly sailing from Barcelona. If you want to look for cruises that you can work on this year still, there are plenty of other week long options that you have including the following:

Celebrity’s Constellation will sail from Barcelona this September and November.
The Queen Mary 2 from Cunard departs Southampton on the July 26, where it is going to visit various ports in Norway.
Disney Cruise lines has a week cruise from Dover to Barcelona which departs on the 30th July.
Holland America has a few seven day cruises in 2010, which depart out of Rotterdam and Dover.
Royal Caribbean offers a number of week-long cruises, departing mainly from Stockholm, Oslo, Venice, Malaga, and Rome.
Princess also offers cruises of about a week from Dover and Southampton.

When you start looking at all the possibilities for working on cruise liners you will find that there are plenty of places that you will want to explore and exciting job openings that are a perfect fit for you, whether you are a qualified chef, massage therapist, hospitality manager, or gym instructor. With the shorter cruises you will have the chance to see more of the ports that you arrive at and you will also get to meet and greet new passengers more often.

If you are a people person and love getting to know others then this is an ideal option for you. Also, if this will be your first time working on a cruise liner, you will be glad for the 7 days cruises so that you can get used to life on board a cruise ship and see if you like it.
