Virgin Plans to Expand its Fleet

Virgin America, which started its flights in 2007, plans to expand its fleet by about 12 planes each year, according to the president and CEO, David Cush. Starting off, is the lease of 9 new airbus A 320s which will be offering daily flights to and from Toronto and Orlando Florida. The company recently went through a restructuring of its stake holders and was given $70 million in debt refinancing.

The flights to Toronto Pearson International Airport are expected to start as early as June departing from Los Angeles and San Francisco International Airports. Flights to Orlando will start on August 19th also departing from Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The airline currently flies to four east coast destinations, namely Washington’s Dulles Airport, Kennedy International Airport in New York, Boston, and Fort Lauderdale, but the focus of the Virgin will be to focus more on long-haul flights. This is why one of the three new destinations that will be announced later in the year is a long haul service.

Since the third quarter earnings of 2008, there has been an improvement in the net earnings for the company within a one year period and things are only looking up. Cush said that the airline is “tracking ahead of plan” regarding its income and revenue. There are plenty of jobs that will be available soon in the company to work on the new airlines that are going to be introduced.
