The Sichuan Basin in China is one of the best places to find natural gas and with this in mind, the Royal Dutch Shell PLC have announced that they will be jointly developing and producing this natural gas along with China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). CNPC is the largest oil and gas company in China and a proposal has been made to China’s government regarding the joint contract. This comes just a year after the joint contract proposal to develop Jinqiu field.
It has been noted that the proposal made last year was also an indication to Shell make a joint bid with CNPC for some of the oil fields in Iraq. The proposal is for a 30 year contract in which they would appraise and gradually develop the tight gas reservoirs in the Sichuan Province area which spans 4000 square km. The tight gas is something different to ordinary natural gas, and would need to be broken out of rock before it can be transferred to the wells for production.
It is expected to provide a lot more clean energy for China as well as build upon Shell’s technology and record for tight natural gas. The partnership with the CNPC is strengthening all the time as Shell also has a project already in production in Changbei region of China which currently supplies about 3 billion cubic meters of gas to Beijing and other Eastern Chinese cities. Another 4000 square km area in the Fushun block also started earlier this year.
There are plenty of other large natural gas reserves around the world including the famous Barnett Shale one in Dallas Fort Worth, Texas. This natural gas is drilled horizontally, and this is the best thing possible in order to minimize impact on the layers of earth. It was recorded that natural gas jobs in this area and others around the world like in China, are always available and there are sometimes up to 100 000 gas jobs created in one year alone.
This is why working in natural gas fields and developing the reserves are great places to be if you want to earn a nice sum of money and be involved in one of the newest and most exciting industries. As more and more discoveries are made, more and more jobs are created in natural gas including roughnecks and drill head operators. These positions are always required for new oil companies that come onto the scene, or to replace other people who don’t want to be operators any longer, or who have been promoted.
