Norwegian Cruise Lines “Epic “Maiden Voyage

The maiden voyage of Norwegian Cruise Lines newest ship, the Epic, took place from Miami on the 8th July and was met with some mixed reactions. This uniquely designed ship offers everything you can possibly imagine on a cruise ship including wave-like cabin designs instead of the ordinary box shaped ones, as well as plenty of entertainment to keep you busy, an authentic Irish pub with bowling alleys, tribute shows, and much more. The brick walls give it a distinct look, and whilst many people fault it for being ugly, one can only compare this to the iconic Eiffel Tower, which was also once considered an eyesore.

The Epic is described as impressionist and would fit in perfectly with works by famed artists such as Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. To tie this in, the Le Bistro French restaurant on board displays plenty of Picassos and Chagalls with a huge 40 thousand piece chandelier dangling over the atrium, the largest chandelier at sea.

Whilst on board you have to make time to catch all of the live shows and concerts, including Cirque Dreams, described by NCL as, “opulent eccentricity à la entertainment extravaganza presented with an array of world-class talent, Broadway acrobatics, a touch of whimsy, and tasteful participation.”

The Epic was christened by country star Reba McIntire and dares to be different, even having a 13th floor, where most or all other hotels and ships steer clear of the supposedly unlucky number and skip from 12 to 14. It weighs over 150 thousand tons and holds up to 4100 passengers. Among its unique features, the Epic boasts the largest spa at sea and also offers cabins for single passengers which is a new concept. The casino is also the largest among NCL cruise ships and for kids the water park has the largest slides. Aside from the French Bistro and Irish pub, there are 18 other dining options that you have.

It is estimated that the Epic will bring over 90 thousand people to the Miami Airport and 300 thousand people to the city every year boosting the economy by about $3 million. This will also lead to about 1000 cruise liner jobs and hospitality jobs in the state, which you can easily be part of by visiting Cruise Job Finder and becoming a member. The cruise jobs and shore based jobs are only part of this, but other hospitality and tourism jobs will also become available as more people frequent the city.
