Canada Oil Sands News

in Oil Sands

The areas of Wood Buffalo and Fort McMurray in Canada just north of Montana are oil hot spots with hundreds of new jobs being offered all the way until 2012 and beyond in all areas of expertise from engineers and geologists, to drillers and assistants. In fact the city slogan for Fort McMurray is “We have the Energy” further cementing this as a long term project in which you can really benefit from by looking for oil jobs.

With President Barack Obama making his first head-of-state visit to Canada on the 19th February, Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper is expecting to discuss the issue of Oil Sands. With the new climate changes and energy efficiency that the United States and Canada are promoting, Barack is expected to speak out against the oil sands projects. The energy-security is something that Obama will, however, keep in mind, as Canada is the second largest supplier of oil to the US with 1.8 million barrels being imported every day.  According to Obama’s national security adviser, James Jones, who was previously president of the US Chamber of Commerce Energy Institute, the benefits and national security provided by the diverse oil sands industry outweighs the negative environmental ramifications. This is good news for the US and Canadian Oil Companies as well as those employed in this multi-billion dollar industry.

Many council members are skeptical of this agreement, as it was Obama’s new mission to encourage renewable energy resources and investigate alternative energy methods. Supporting the oil sands project seems hypocritical. The meeting will allow the two leaders to tackle the issue and come to a balanced conclusion that works for all involved.
