Cambridge Airport will be one of the 5 airports that will be open 24 hours a day for the duration of the Olympic Games to be held between the 21st July and 15th August 2012. This means more airport jobs to handle the increased passenger loads. This means additional airport security jobs, baggage checkers, airport retail staff and staff to work in the coffee shops and restaurants. Currently Cambridge already operates under a no noise restriction on a 24 hour basis as recognized by the Airport Coordination Limited (ACL).

The 24 hour will allow the airport to accept aircraft and passengers at full capacity during the day and in the early morning and night time hours, it will be allowed to accept 30% of the regional slot controlled traffic. ACL has released a new booking system which will ensure that the capacity meets the expected demand for the duration of the Games.

There is also an initiative in place to get more business aviation operators to use the airport including government fleets, charter flights, and private companies, where a once off fee is being offered for a guaranteed parking spot that includes take off and landing fees.

According to the Airport Manager at Cambridge, Richard Knight, “The 24/7 capacity, combined with our special events offering, gives our customers exceptional flexibility, particularly as we have a generous allocation of early morning and late evening slots. With hotels fully booked and events running into the evening, a day trip to the Olympics becomes a viable option.”

Since the beginning of this year, Cambridge Airport has reported a growth in business thanks to its new management team implementing their commercial strategy. The Airport Director, Archie Garden has increased the aviation business by 15 % from 2010 and sales of fuel are up by 37 %. The parking fee income has also increased by 90 % with training flights also rising year on year.

It is estimated that within the first 18 months of opening the new airport will add 100 aviation jobs to the area and this includes jobs in Pilot Training and through various brokers and aircraft companies. New instruments are being added as well, including advanced GPS, new instrument guidance systems which will be implemented with the Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPI’s) so that the same high angle descents are possible just like London Airport.

Cambridge Airport has also been chosen by the Pilot Training College (PTC) as the location where its new training academy will open in June, offering two simulator rooms which are currently being built. To find out more about the various airport careers like this around the world, become a member of Airline Job Finder.

Broken Arrow will soon be getting 300 aviation jobs thanks to the expansion of aviation company Flight Safety, whose products include the manufacture of flight simulators. The city relies on the aviation employment currently offered by the company and has encouraged them to stay in Broken Arrow by offering a great incentive package totaling $6 million and introducing 300 more aviation jobs to the area.

Chamber of Commerce President, Wes Smithwick commented, “Flight Safety jobs pay almost double the state average wage and that’s a huge deal. That’s the kind of job that a lot of people want but few get to recruit to their area.” The expansion will be good for the total economy and it is hoped that the new 375 thousand foot facility will bring more big businesses, shops and restaurants to the area. It also means that Broken Arrow could be known as the flight simulator capital and according to Senator Jim Inhofe, “The fact that they have made the decision to have this huge facility nails it down that they are never going to leave; that they are ours forever.”

In total over 31 thousand aviation and aerospace jobs will be added during this year, as indicated in the 15th Workforce and Young Professionals Study released during Aviation Week. The President of Aviation Week, Greg Hamilton, “2011 marks a year of transition for the A&D industry. The end of the shuttle era and cutbacks in defense spending are taking place concurrently with a rapid commercial aerospace manufacturing ramp up. While total jobs will rise, significant numbers of high-skill engineering jobs will be at risk, and our aerospace-management customers remain challenged finding key technology-leadership skill sets. Conducting this substantive Workforce Study each year allows Aviation Week to provide essential and actionable analysis for industry executives, professionals, and students.”

The unveiling of a new security screening protocol by the U.S Travel Association in March is set to stream line the travel and check in process for passengers and ensure safety and security of all American airports. The new system has been introduced due to various recent surveys revealing that most travelers are avoiding 2 to 3 trips annually, predominantly due to the hassles surrounding the stringent security screening that is currently in place.

It is shown that these evaded trips cost the U.S economy $85 billion and subsequently 900 thousand airport jobs. After a year-long study and analysis of the security screening measures that should be established, a report was issued to the U.S Congress entitled, “A Better Way: Building a World-Class System for Aviation Security” where Congress was encouraged to instigate the recommendations through positive policy decisions.

The panel of travel and security experts, along with the U.S Travel Association has three primary goals in mind with the reformed air travel security screening. Firstly, they wish to vastly improve upon the TSA checkpoint procedures whereby travelers are screened based on risk. Efficiency at the checkpoint and decreasing passenger wait times is vital.

Secondly, the report outlines that an increase in governmental cooperation will be instrumental in implementing better security responsibilities, and thirdly, risk assessment and management tools are to be used to restructure the way that America sees the aviation security segment.

The president and CEO of the U.S Travel Association, Roger Dow, said, “While our government and passengers deserve credit for preventing another terrorist attack like what happened nearly 10 years ago on 9/11, each day in the United States roughly two million air travelers are advised to arrive upwards of two hours before a flight in order to be processed through a one-size-fits-all security screening system. The country that put a man on the moon, invented the Internet and creates daily innovations in manufacturing can and must do better in screening passengers and improving our air travel experience. Air travel is the gateway to commerce and an improved experience is directly tied to job creation and a stronger economy.”

To help introduce the report, former Secretary Ridge commented, “A strong aviation security screening system must feature several characteristics, including efficient methods of deterring and interdicting terrorists and criminals; tailored security based upon risk assessment; frequent, clear communication with the traveling public; and cost-effective use of resources.”

For this new system to come into effect, certain sacrifices are going to be required from various sectors of the industry including airports, airlines, travel agencies, travelers, federal agencies and others.

“Dramatic policy shifts undermine the ability of our nation to create a secure and efficient aviation system, and demonstrate a lack of a long-term vision for aviation security,” Dow said. “TSA and its officers often bear unjustified public criticism for simply carrying out the ever-changing policies set by Congress and an unwillingness to date to embrace risk management. If this pattern is to change, Congress must set the tone and take on the responsibility of improving the current system.”

Some of the recommendations are as follows:

Implement a risk-based trusted traveler program.

Improve preparation of travelers.

Encourage fewer carry-on bags.

Reduce duplicative TSA screening for international arrivals.

Expand trusted traveler programs to qualified international passengers.

Give TSA authority over the entire checkpoint area.

Develop a comprehensive technology procurement strategy.

Implement well-defined risk management processes.

He concluded, “When combining the staggering economic consequences of the current system with the widely held views of the traveling public – and with the American way of life hanging in the balance – the picture becomes clear. We must find a better way and build a new traveler-focused system for aviation security.”

The new policy will certainly encourage growth in the airport security job sector and all other aviation jobs will be boosted as well due to the increase in passengers including pilot jobs, flight attendant jobs, and more.

After nearly 2 years, the passenger airlines in the United States are finally adding jobs again. The increase was a mere 0.2 percent, but according to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the aviation industry workforce rose to 379,651 from 378,953 last year. Delta Airlines was one of the airlines to hire back staff that were let go and have added over 4000 airline jobs over the past year.

“They’re beginning to add some heads in the customer service area, flight attendants and reservations,” said research engineer, William Swelbar, working at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s air transportation center. “Everyone is looking in the mirror and saying I need to add here and there.”

According to Jerry Glass, a former labor executive at US Airways, “Things are bottoming out. I would expect some moderate hiring in 2011.”

“As the economy starts to percolate again there’s more demand,” said chief executive officer of Challenger, Gray & Christmas, an outplacement consulting firm based in Chicago. “As that gathers momentum the hiring will pick up and has started to do that.”

American Airlines is planning on hiring back 200 of its furloughed flight attendants next week and Southwest Airlines expects to hire “hundreds” this year.

Since the recessions, air travel is slowing increasing with four or five airlines posting profits last year. The Bloomberg US Airlines Index rose a total of 22 percent in 2010, which is a small but encouraging improvement after the huge 53 percent decline since 2006.

After cutting about 22 thousand aviation jobs in 2008 and 2009, it is expected that carriers will be cautious about hiring again, and even United Continental Holdings, the world’s larger carrier said that the rehiring process would be limited and monitored closely according to the growth in gross domestic product.

“Airlines have learned from past mistakes,” Glass said. “I don’t think there’s going to be an explosion of capacity growth which would lead to a lot of hiring.”

If you want to get into the aviation industry, now that the airlines have started hiring again, be sure to get your qualifications and learn all about the various kinds of airline jobs and airport jobs you can get by visiting Airline Job Finder.

The Southampton Airport was the location of the Hampshire Travel Hub’s Career Fair where 100 airport jobs were being offered including airport security jobs, baggage handler jobs, cabin crew jobs, and ground staff jobs, as well as those in the retail sector, cleaning, check in staff, catering, and IT.

Over 5000 people queued around the airport terminal in response to the job offers, which were not expected according to the human resources manager, Caroline Morton.

“We weren’t expecting quite as many people as we have seen. For any future career fairs we will absolutely look for a larger accommodation where we can see more people.”

It just goes to show how desperate the times are and how urgently people need jobs. Some people waited for 2 and-a-half hours just for the shot at one of the 100 airport jobs on offer. The fair revolved around the 30 companies who operate at the airport, including Flybe, BAA, Servisair, and NATS (National Air Traffic Control).

Some of the jobs offered were season, with only a small percentage being permanent. While organizers did tell people that they could simply fill out and return application forms, many decided to wait, despite the long ques.

The director of marketing, Jan Halliday commented, “We’re really sorry if people have had to wait in queues to actually see the right people. We have tried to offer different options to people so they don’t have to wait in the queues. The interest was greater than we had anticipated but I think that shows the popularity of the airport as a place to work. It does reflect the number of people looking for new roles in this region and also the time of year. A lot of people over Christmas think, I want to do something different in 2011.”

If you are thinking along the same lines and interested to find out more about a new career in aviation working for an airline or at an airport, then you should become a member of Airline Job Finder. As a member you have access to over 180 pages of information about all the aviation jobs out there including how to become a pilot, and various aviation maintenance career options. There is also a job board where you can search for any current job openings in the aviation field and apply right away. To help you out there are also resources on the website for resume writing and filling out application forms.

This aviation project needs to be completed by the end of March 2011, for the government to allocate a further portion of funding. This has forced the city to start looking for tenants for the new hangar and allow the hard work of introducing an MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) to eventually come to fruition.

Mayor Francis said, “That is a real deadline. It would have to happen in the next little while.”

The hangar is expected to be 150 thousand square feet in size and will initially generate 200 aviation maintenance jobs for the area. Premier Aviation, who have various clients including Air Canada, WestJet, and Sunwings, offer paint jobs, specialized upgrades, heavy maintenance and everything in between.

The CEO of Premier, Ronnie Di Bartolo added that their company hopes to add over 300 aviation jobs to Quebec over the next 5 years. Windsor was chosen due to the vast number of skilled workers in the area who work in metal, electrical, and the mechanical trade. It seems as though education institutions are already celebrating the new facility and are planning to include aviation maintenance industry programs. The University of Windsor and St Claire College will benefit the most as their students will be used in the facility supplying engineering students and skilled tradesmen.

With a new hangar being built, various other kinds of airline and airport jobs will become available making this is the perfect time to brush up your resume and practice your interview skills. With the help of Airline Job Finder, you will be able to nail your interviews and get excellent airline jobs in Quebec or anywhere in the world that you choose.

Premier Aviation has been busy over the last year, acquiring three new hangar spaces in Rome, New York totaling 379 thousand square feet. They also spent a whopping $17 million on expanding their hangar location in Trois-Rivieres with $9 million of that amount being awarded in grants by the local Quebec and Ottawa governments.

Currently, the location of the new 6 storey hangar is under debate. It is either going to be built in one of two locations: either on Country Road 42 to the east of the main terminal at Windsor, or it will be built in the empty northeast corner near to Lauzon Road.

There is some concern about the location of the hangar and according to Kevin Michaels of aviation consulting firm, AeroStrategy, Windsor is not an ideal location. He said, “Wide-body aircraft maintenance is a very difficult market. It’s a global market. Those planes can travel anywhere in the world. So any facility in this part of North America is going to have to compete with facilities in low-cost regions like China, Southeast Asia, Latin America.”

The third job featured in our Best Jobs of 2011 segment is a commercial pilot job. Airlines are not the only places where you can find work as a pilot and being privately employed can have far more benefits than you might think. Commercial pilots work for numerous companies flying people and cargo around. You can test fly planes, fly company officials to meetings in corporate jets, become an agricultural pilot dusting crops, helping to monitor traffic for TV and radio stations, and work with rescue personnel. A commercial pilot needs to have plenty of flight experience and be able to multitask. You have to communicate with the aviation weather forecasters and air traffic control towers, as well as monitor your fuel supply and the entire condition of the aircraft you are flying.

Commercial pilots are expected to become more sought after going into 2011 with an increase of about 7,300 new aviation jobs. The salary prospects are low with long hours if you work at a regional airline, but corporate pilots and those working in rescue or for TV stations can expect to earn in the region of $65 thousand per year.

It does take a lot of perseverance and patience to become a pilot with the governments just recently having increased the number of flight hours required to 1500 before you can transport passengers. This has discouraged some people from becoming pilots, which means that the new jobs are available with less competition.

To advance into the 6 figure bracket captaining a huge jet, you will have to work your way up through the ranks and start out working for the smaller carriers. Being flexible will help you get a promotion, as you can readily change location according to where there are openings. Working as a corporate pilot however, you will retain your job in the company you work for indefinitely. There are generally no advancements to be made as some companies only hire one or two pilots.

Usually commercial pilots do not have stressful jobs, but if you are a test pilot, there is an element of danger involved as you will have to fly planes that are experimental and push them to their limits. The hours you work are also irregular with some long hours and other shorter hours depending on where you have to fly and what flights are needed on any particular day.

Here is what a commercial pilot had to say about his progression in the aviation industry: “I got my commercial certificate, then my flight instructor certification. So I was teaching, and making a living flying a Cessna 172 with a traffic reporter. That added up to about six hours of flying every day. I also flew a nighttime cargo route between L.A. and Sacramento, then flew an on-demand passenger charter. By the time American Eagle hired me in 1999, I had 2,500 hours of flying time. If you’re not coming from the military, that’s a typical sort of progression.”

Although there have been lots of pilots on furlough due to the recession and companies cutting down on expenses, 2011 is expected to be a good year with more jobs being offered in this field going all the way into 2018 according to the US Department of Labor. There is much more to learn about becoming a pilot that you should read before you make a decision to go into this field, as many people have said that it is fickle, so if you want to get all the details then visit Airline Job Finder.

Here you will get the lowdown on job descriptions, potential employers, salaries, career advancement, how to apply for jobs, what training and certifications you need to get, and more. You will not only learn about pilot jobs, but aviation maintenance jobs, flight attendant jobs, airport jobs like working security, and other airline jobs. Become a member today and reap the benefits of getting inside info and full access to a job board where you can apply for commercial pilot jobs and other aviation jobs.

In a deal between new AirAsia X airline based in Malaysia and Christchurch Airport in New Zealand, 600 new airline jobs and airport jobs will be created. This is thanks to the direct flights between Christchurch and Kuala Lumpur which will be offered from March 2011 with 4 return flights each week. The deal will not only provide 600 to 700 more jobs to the area, but will also boost the economy of Canterbury by about $70 to $80 million (from 52 million US), according to the Mayor of Christchurch, Bob Parker.

He said, “I think we’ve achieved an absolute coup for our city … we beat out Auckland, we actually beat out Sydney and it’s going to revolutionize for a lot of Kiwis flying into the international marketplace because it’s going to introduce incredibly low fares. We are looking at up to 70,000 more visitors a year.”

After lobbying for the deal for nearly 2 years, Christchurch had finally won the services thanks to the compelling business proposal presented and because of its good relationship with the owner of the airline, Tony Fernandes.

Parker commented on this, “Mr Fernandes – he is kind of the Richard Branson of this part of the world, but he still likes to know there is a commitment. What he really liked about our presentation to him today is he felt there was a genuine commitment from a number of organizations. We’re the major shareholders in the airport and he really wanted to eyeball us and make sure it was all genuine. He got that and he is right on board.”

AirAsia X flies Airbus A330-300, A340-300 and A350-900 aircraft, and it is hoped that in the next 2 years that there will be daily flights between Kuala Lumpur and Christchurch. If you want to work in the airline industry at airports or directly for the airlines, then this is a great opportunity. You can find out more about what is required of you when you visit Airline Job Finder.

A slightly improving economy means more travel, and where there is more air travel, there is a need for various airline staff including flight attendants. After letting many of them go, Delta Airlines is now turning things around offering 1000 flight attendant jobs. Another 425 flight attendants who were on a voluntary leave of absence have also been recalled by Delta from a pool of about 730.

There were more than 85 thousand applications for the airline flight attendant jobs and the ones that were selected will begin training in January so that they are ready for work by the middle of next year. The aim was to find applicants who can speak foreign languages including Spanish, Japanese, Mandarin, and Dutch to improve the international flights that Delta offers.

The flight attendants including those who left the company voluntarily are busy voting about whether they want to be represented by a Union, namely the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA or go without one.

According to Gina Laughlin, the spokesperson for Delta, the new flight attendants will get paid $1746 per month during the training period. Those with 12 years of seniority and who work an average of 75 hours a month will be earning $41 thousand a year.

Aside from the flight attendants, Delta has also hired about 300 pilots this year as well as 100 aircraft mechanics, making them the only major airline to increase employment over the last year.

If you want to find jobs as flight attendants, Delta is still looking for applicants with foreign language skills. You can also find out about other airlines looking to fill flight attendant jobs, pilot jobs, and other jobs by checking out Airline Job Finder. There is a job board where you can find any current job openings and you can also learn all the details about becoming a flight attendant or pilot by joining as a member.

You can find out what you need to study, how you can get involved, what the pay and working conditions are like and get inside information about the job from actual flight attendants and pilots who already do this for a living.

Flight attendants and pilots are not the only airline related jobs that you can apply for. Aircraft maintenance crew members are always needed, as well as baggage handlers, security personnel, air traffic controllers, and ticket sellers. Just go to the website and log in to discover all you need to know about any airline jobs, airport jobs, aircraft maintenance jobs and more.
