Chiquita Brands International, which deals in primarily in bananas, and is one Cincinnati’s most profitable companies, has announced that it will be moving its headquarters to Charlotte, NC and bringing about 400 high paying jobs to the area at the same time. The move is expected to be complete at the end of 2012 and comes after a $22 million incentives deal was put on the table by a economic development panel in North Carolina.

Ohio lost out to North Carolina after only offering a $6 million incentives deal, as opposed to the $20 million in state incentives that NC is offering. The local government is offering a further $2 million, making the total $22 million, which is going to be used to fund close to 418 high paying jobs in research and development. The deal was approved by the Economic Investment Committee on Tuesday.

The chairman and CEO of Chiquita, Fernando Aguirre, said in a statement, “After an extensive review of our capabilities and needs, we are confident that Charlotte is the optimal location for our business and that our decision to relocate is in the long-term best interest of our company, customers, employees and shareholders.”

Aguirre thanked Cincinnati at the introduction in Charlotte, stating, “I want to thank the citizens of Cincinnati. They have treated us extremely well. The fact is we needed to make decisions to help our business, not just in the short term, but the long term.” Many of the Cincinnati employees are being offered a relocation package, but for those that cannot move, the high paying positions are open for applications.

Spokesperson for the Ohio governor, explained why they did not match the incentive offered by North Carolina. “We’ve got to be a good steward of taxpayers’ dollars and that means making sure that incentive packages give taxpayers the right return on their investment. We’re not going to be irresponsible and give away the store to try and keep a company that fundamentally doesn’t want to be here or which has already made up its mind to leave.”

Currently Chiquita employs around 20 000 people and with its huge global market, executives agreed that the relocation to Charlotte would mean more efficient air access to its locations across Latin America and Europe, where it currently does most of its business. There has been discontent over the last few months with the airport in Cincinnati, which does not offer as many international nonstop flights as Charlotte does. Flights have also been declining over the past few years with Cincinnati’s only European destination being Paris, down from 5 flights in 2005. Nonstop flights and daily departures are also down more than half of what they used to be 5 years ago.

The Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida is set to be the new headquarters of an aerospace program developed by Boeing Co. that will bring an estimated 550 high paying engineering jobs and high paying aviation jobs to the area by December 2015. The new space program will focus on the development of a 7 man spaceship that will transport astronauts to and from the International Space Station.

Dubbed Crew Space Transportation-100, this program will ensure the smooth implementation process of the engineering aspects and manufacturing aspects all in one area instead of spread out over the country, which is currently the case. Since the space shuttle program retired earlier this year, many aviation and aerospace experts lost their jobs, and this program will once again see high paying jobs returning to the so called “space coast”.

The program manager of commercial programs, John Mulholland said, “We selected Florida due to the cost benefits achieved with a consolidated operation, the skilled local workforce and proximity to our NASA customer.”

The President of Space Florida, Frank DiBello, commented, “We are extremely pleased that Boeing will locate its commercial crew headquarters here in Florida. This positions our state well for future growth and a leadership role in NASA’s next-generation human space exploration initiatives. It is also a key factor in ensuring Florida’s space-related economy continues to thrive after shuttle retirement.”

The low orbit space missions, including carrying cargo to the International Space Station, are expected to be funded by private businesses, and eventually, NASA hopes that it will be able to send astronauts into space with the aid of companies like Boeing Co. They are one of the largest to jump on this opportunity and have already started developing the pressure vessel of the Apollo-like capsule, as well as the autonomous docking system and base heat shield.

Many people are excited about the establishment of the center at the Kennedy Space Center, especially those who lost their jobs recently as the shuttle program closed. The CEO and President of the Volusia Manufacturers Association, Jayne Fifer, said, “If you’re going to be building something, with all our manufacturers, I’m sure they can provide lots of services and capabilities.”

Phil Ehlinger, the Volusia County director of economic development, agreed, “I think that if in fact they are able to create the jobs that they’re hoping to, there are a number of Volusia residents that had worked there, and hopefully they’ll be reemployed, which is great.”

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University president John Johnson is hoping that internships will be available to his students. He said, “Embry-Riddle is in favor of any kind of job creation activity in the state of Florida, especially when it involves the aerospace industry. It will be a wonderful new initiative.”

Another fan of the program is U.S. Rep. John Mica, R-Winter Park, who stated, “It is vital that we maintain aerospace engineering expertise in Florida. I am pleased Gov. Scott is working to keep those valuable high-paying jobs in our state.”

So, you are looking for a high paying job, but you have no degree and have not attended a college. Should you just give up? Of course not! There are plenty of jobs that pay very high salaries where you need absolutely no degree whatsoever. Sound too good to be true? Well, to prove that these jobs do exist, here are the top 6 career options for those with no formal tertiary education.

Air Traffic Controller

As an air traffic controller, your job is to make sure that aircraft are kept safe when taking off and landing. You must also keep planes on course and to their correct schedules. As a new recruit you will earn about $17,800 per year, but you will receive training on the job, and as you gain more experience, you can eventually make up to $140,000 per year.

Bakken Shale

The oil industry has plenty of 100K jobs just waiting, especially in the Bakken Shale formation of North Dakota. This is like a modern day gold rush with jobs paying around $130,000 per annum with only 2 years of experience. Truck drivers who transport the oil out of the area are expected to make $100,000 and other jobs will see you earning a huge salary with little, if any, experience.

Powerhouse Substation Mechanic

Personnel are always required to work in substations repairing and maintaining the power supply of the town or city. On average this job pays $61,700 per year, but at the top of the group you can earn about $82,000. The training is intense and it is considered to be a dangerous occupation, but one where you only need a high school diploma to apply.

Elevator Mechanic

Not many people think about this as a career choice, but elevator mechanics are required in every town to ensure that building’s elevators run smoothly and to install new ones. These people earn in the region of $67,000 a year, but can make as much as $100,000. You do have to complete a 4 year course including classroom and on the job training, but you can do this without any other kind of degree.

Financial Advisor

Working as a financial advisor does not mean that you have to have any kind of finance degree, but you do need to be certified and you will get on the job training so that you can qualify. You will usually start out earning between $20,000 and $24,000 as an intern, but after about 5 years of experience many advisors earn more than $100,000.

Transportation Inspector

Many cities in the world, such as New York, rely heavily on public transportation, so there is a huge need for transportation inspectors to check and maintain these vital pieces of machinery. They keep the public safe and after only a few years of experience can earn $103,000 a year.

In this world where the global recession has caused massive unemployment the world over, it is sometimes hard to find the high paying work that we all dream of, but looking carefully and understanding how to go about securing these 100K jobs is the first step. There are so many people all over the world that have plenty of money and who get paid a fortune for what they do. We look at the jobs they do and a lot of the time, it could be a job you had originally thought of pursuing. Perhaps the job is something you can do, but just need to know where to start and how to go about it.

It is true that a lot of the high paying jobs, especially in the marketing industry come about due to the specific company you work for. Landing an excellent marketing job can happen to just about anyone in the industry, as long as you work hard, gain lots of experience, and keep your eye out for the best opportunities at all times. Marketing and media agencies rely on huge contracts which lead to higher paying work, so always look at who the leaders are in the business before commencing your job hunt.

If you are looking into the financial or law side of things, high paying jobs usually only come from years of working in the field. With experience comes the higher paying work you are after, but this can also be attained by looking at which kinds of law earn more money, for example, look at the salaries of criminal lawyers as opposed to estate lawyers or personal injury lawyers.

Making a lot of money should not however, be your ultimate goal. You must love what you do and expect the better pay to come with time. Securing a high salary can also linked to your education and what qualifications you have. Most of the time, an impressive tertiary education will allow you to land the better paying work, but not always.

There are certain jobs that will see you earning a great salary without even needing to go to university. These jobs are learnt on the job and usually involve some sort of dangerous element.

The telecommunication giant, Time Warner Cable, has announced that they will be offering over 200 high paying jobs to Charlotte over the next year. 225 IT jobs, will be created as part of the 178 thousand square foot expansion due to be completed at the end of 1012. The jobs will include high paying IT jobs, high paying engineering jobs, high paying finance jobs and high paying accounting jobs, as well as those in human resources.

The expansion that Time Warner is undertaking is to create a massive data hub for the company to stay abreast of the competition and the ever changing technological landscape and remain as the second largest cable provider. A tech analyst who covers cable companies, Jeff Kagan said, “It’s a way for them to stay ahead of the curve. Competitors are numerous now … and that’s just going to continue.”

The data hub is a great way for the company to make use of the tax incentives that have been allocated to North Carolina and to offer high speed data, video, commercial and voice services to the world. The vice president for operations at the Time Warner east region, Carol Hevey, says, “Consumers need the advanced services now. The technology is available and ready to deploy to consumers, and helps us to deliver content to consumers anywhere on any device.”

The new employees will be housed in a separate building which is also being built as part of the deal which is over 103,500 square feet. The hiring process is expected to be complete in 2014. Time Warner has already invested over $200 million locally since 2002 and expects that this will increase dramatically.

The company is making use of the Job Development Investment Grant yet again for its development, which leaves it open to receiving $ 2.9 million in state funds. This will be the third time they have done this with the first being in 2004, where they were to create 350 jobs and invest $28 million. Instead they ended up investing over 30 million and more than 400 jobs were created. The second grant it received was in 2008 and they had to create 200 100K jobs and invest $3.7 million which it did.

Kagan said, “There are so many new technologies, and many that won’t be in existence in a few years because they’re going to grow and change. If Time Warner doesn’t transform itself, it’s going to fall behind.”

David Jones the CEO of another data service provider says that this area is conducive for business owners to use for anyone interested in data centers.

“It’s also going to attract more talent to Charlotte and provide incentives for more training around IT solutions; the center is going to support their applications.”

Jennifer Roberts the Chairman of the Perdue and Mecklenburg, Board of County Commissioners said, “We know that information is the currency of the 21st century and access to that information is extremely important to making sure all our citizens have access to good information … in whatever they want to do.”

The governor also stated her aspirations for the future, “Since I’m a paying customer, I need to tell you that I’ve got one big item still left on my wish list. I dream of the day when we’re standing here … and we get to say Charlotte, N.C., corporate headquarters for Time Warner Cable…”. Currently Time Warner is not planning to move their headquarters.

President Obama visited North Carolina on Monday to promote the training and introduction of more high tech jobs for Americans. In the new jobs council session, Obama reassured businesses that his administration policies put job creation of high paying jobs at number one on his list of things that need urgent attention.

The President said, “Today, the single most serious economic problem we face is getting people back to work. We stabilized the economy, we prevented a financial meltdown and an economy that was shrinking is now growing. We’ve added more than 2 million private sector jobs over the last 15 months alone, but, I’m still not satisfied. I will not be satisfied until everyone who wants a good job that offers some security has a good job that offers security.” He added, “I am optimistic about our future,” although did acknowledge that “we can’t be complacent”.

President Obama also announced plans to introduce training programs that will ensure the training of 10 thousand new engineers each year, with promotion of this high paying industry by private companies as well as the government. Promotion into technology, science, and math will also be encouraged, with certain incentives offered to students who finish these degrees and to universities for offering engineering programs.

He used the LED lighting company, Cree Inc, where the session was being held as an example of how the private company / university collaboration would work. “Right now, there are more than four job seekers for every job opening in America. But when it comes to science and high-tech fields, the opposite is true: businesses like this tell me they’re having a hard time finding workers to fill their job openings.”

Although the unemployment rates are still high, there are more than 100 thousand new high tech jobs that have been created in the last year with May showing a slow but steady growth. According to IT lobbying group, TechServe Alliance, more than 1100 high paying IT jobs were created in May which was the 17th consecutive month of growth. Employment passed the 4 million mark in February for the first time, reaching 4.01 million in May.

Mark Roberts, the CEO of TechServe Alliance commented, “While the rate of growth moderated last month, the long-term trajectory of IT employment remains decidedly positive”.

Whilst IT and engineering are two industries where job growth is being promoted and encouraged, there are other high paying career options that you can look into. Law jobs, marketing jobs, health care jobs, finance jobs, and aviation jobs all have a very good outlook.

Another positive statistic that has recently been released is with regards to the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) which showed that over 5 million jobs have been created in the United States over the past decade that pay on average 30 % more than other jobs.

Rebecca Blank, the Acting Commerce Deputy Secretary said, “Foreign direct investment in the United States is a critical dimension of our economy and one that holds great growth potential for high-paying American jobs. By expanding the number of countries that bring business operations to the United States and encouraging further domestic business expansion, we can leverage foreign investment as a powerful engine for U.S. economic growth and job creation.”

With the 2008 global recession putting a lot of people out of work, 100K jobs became extremely few and far between, but now due to the rising economy, high paying jobs are once again being offered in various sectors. The main industries that seem to be on the mend as far as increasing employment rates are concerned are the IT industry and engineering. High paying aviation jobs are also slowly starting to be offered again, as the markets improve.

Other high paying careers like law jobs, healthcare jobs, and marketing jobs are steady and although the industries took a knock, they are still offering high paying jobs as these segments of the economy will always be in demand. There are various 100K jobs that are also available in industries that are not the most common.

High salaried jobs can be found where you do not need a degree. These are police supervisor jobs, nuclear power reactor operator jobs, gaming manager jobs, real estate broker jobs, transportation manager jobs and more.

No matter what kind of qualification you have, you can now start looking around for jobs in your industry that pay a better salary once again, now that the economy has improved. Those who had taken a furlough are being offered their jobs back and various companies are expanding their companies with new branches and franchises across the country.

The effects of the recession made cities all too aware of the fact that certain industries and community sectors are valuable for them to have and hold onto. The aim of most officials is to encourage big industries to set up branches in their cities and towns where they will be introducing high paying jobs. The influx of highly skilled people to these areas is instrumental in the growth of the local economies and will therefore protect them in the event of future recessions.

For more information on the different kinds of high paying jobs you can get and details about each industry that you can work in, have a look at the 100K Job Finder website and become a member. You will gain access to a comprehensive job board that is regularly updated with current 100K and other well paid job openings. You can also learn about various employers out there that have high paying jobs on offer and learn about the qualifications you need in order to apply for them. This website offers tips and hints for the job application process and provides assistance with writing a good resume and learning excellent job interview technique. This site has every resource you need to enable you to get the 100K job of your choice.

Chandler, Arizona held its first job fair on April 1st with over 1000 people turning up at the Chandler Center of Arts for the high paying jobs and lower paying jobs on offer, including those in the cruise industry. PayPal was hiring and hundreds lined up for a chance to work for this industry giant. Local hospitals, insurance companies, and large companies like Intel, U.S. Customs, Norwegian Cruise Line, Boeing and Home Depot made up the 60 employers.

Mayor, Jay Tibshraeny was there to give a brief pep talk and mingle with the job seekers said, “We were really excited about the turnout, and we will do this again.” He told the crowd, “We will pull out of this recession . . . stay motivated, remain encouraged.”

“I didn’t come with any expectations, but I saw this huge line. My gosh, people need this!” said 37 year old former mortgage underwriter, Brent Haeg who recently moved to Chandler from San Diego.

Another hopeful was Jennifer Moyers, a single parent who had been laid off in 2007 and has only been able to get temporary work and internships since then.
Cheryl Kaufman, a business services representative for the Arizona Department of Economic Security said, “This tells us what the economy looks like. We can tell by the crowd that we need to do more.”

Many people were excited that this job fair, unlike so many others, actually offered real jobs, and there were unconfirmed reports that some applicants were hired on the spot.

According to Patrick Burkhart, an assistant director of the Human Services Department of Maricopa County, this is one of the best job fairs he has worked on, “There are about 300 to 400 jobs here, everything from entry level to managerial and technical. And there are more professional people at this event than we normally see.”

With so many skilled workers anxious to fill the various high paying jobs on offer, the Chandler Job Fair was considered by all to be a huge success. Norwegian Cruise Line was one of the employers looking to fill various vacancies which many people were excited about.

Working on a cruise ship is an exciting career move, and even an office based position in the travel industry is exciting.
