There are plenty of college students out there who have heard of interning and many realize that this is one of the most important aspects to getting a job once they have graduated. For many though, an internship is just a job where you don’t get paid. This is why internships are so necessary and why the internship programs are offered in so many companies.

First of all internships exist all over the world and many interns choose to work abroad to gain valuable life experience while still learning about the industry they want to eventually work in. This is usually done over a summer vacation or as a gap year program.

The main benefit of internships is to get a foot in the door and to gain experience in your field. It is all very well studying for 4 or 5 years and being the best in your class, but many companies do not want the best on paper – they want the best in a real life situation.

Another reason why interning is so important is that it gives you the chance to earn academic credits which are important for your college or university graduation. Most companies will look at these credits very seriously before hiring you, so it is good to have as many as you can get.

If you are fortunate enough to find, apply and get a paid internship, you will get first hand real life experience working for a company. This gives you not only an idea of the working environment that you will be getting into, but also the prospects you have for advancement. This is important for revealing your true nature and if you actually want to work in the industry you are studying for.

Many people think that becoming a lawyer or working in the government is what they want to do and then when they find out more by completing an internship program, they change their minds. Interning is done in most corporations and businesses and is another way for a company to find a new staff member without going through hundreds or thousands of applications. They already know you and know how you work and have also been able to train and guide you in their way of doing things.

This is all very helpful when you apply for a job, and most interns actually get offered a job with the company they interned with. So, in a way, interning is like your very first job interview for when you leave college.

This is why it is very important to do it right. Learn more about what you have to do to be a good intern and learn about the best ways to apply, fill out the applications and get involved by visiting the Internship Finder website. Become a member and you have full access to detailed info and the job board where current internship opportunities are offered.

With the summer vacations on the horizon, students from all over are planning their internship programs. Getting an internship is one of the most important aspects of finding a good job in the field you enjoy working in. Many interns work in sports, government, business, IT, healthcare and more. Many are non-paying internships that rather reward you in academic credits, but you can get ones that pay a small salary. If you look for an internship that is for credit only you can expect to also get short listed for a job once you have completed your studies. Currently many companies are awarding internships as the summer vacations are approaching. Here are a few of them.

How to Get an Internship

The first internship program that we will look at involves one of the top sports teams in the country, the Boston Red Sox. This is the best in terms of baseball and business aspects. Recently a BC High graduate, William Keough, won a contest offered by Bentley University giving him the chance to intern for one month at Fenway Park and be involved in marketing and sponsorship for all the sports teams including the Red Sox. This internship provides students with intricate business knowledge and communication skills. You also get the chance watch each Red Socks game and even their batting practice.

For those that love sports and who want to be involved in the marketing side of things, this internship is one of the top ones as you work primarily for Fenway Sports Group or FSG. They are committed to driving brand awareness and use innovative tools for marketing integration challenges. Aside from the Red Sox, the Fenway Sports Group is also associated with Boston College Athletics and Rousch Fenway Racing. Part of the internship will involve online research for sponsors,

Another exciting aspect of being an intern for the FSG is to be part of the Red Socks Destinations program. This allows fans to go on trips to various Red Sox away games, and the also get to meet a Red Sox player. The internship program will include helping with the organization of this event. Getting to the business side of things, you will also get to attend quarterly meetings and find out about the running of the Red Sox, achievements in ticket sales, future developments at Fenway and more. Here is what William Keough had to say about his summer internship:

“This internship provided me with connections I feel can make a difference in the future, and valuable business knowledge. I strongly recommend that everyone enter this contest. The reward isn’t money or fame; it’s the opportunity of a lifetime to work for one of the most successful franchises in the country. The prize cannot be spent away or wasted. It is an experience that will benefit you for the rest of your life. The knowledge I garnered over the length of my internship has significantly surpassed the knowledge I could learn in a classroom. This great opportunity has given me a step ahead of my classmates in college and an unparalleled motivation to become an intelligent, aggressive, and successful businessman.”

Another type of internship you can get is offered by the Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars. Currently 250 State System students have participated in this program which sends graduates to Washington DC to work in government, business, and various non-profit organizations. These include the Environmental Protection Agency, the Peace Corps, and the Library of Congress.

One of the best parts of this program is that is connects the students with professional in the industry that they want to be working in within the next five years. It offers the perfect networking system that helps interns to be better prepared for life after college as they search for new jobs. It gives them the confidence to apply for top jobs even though the job market is tough at the moment.

Looking at these two brilliant summer programs that offer unpaid internships with various companies you can be assured that no matter what industry you are interested in working in, there will be a suitable place for you. Being an intern will afford you the opportunity to learn more about the different jobs that you can get once you have graduated, and this can also be your foot in the door when it comes to getting a job in your chosen profession.

You can learn more about being an intern when you visit Internship Finder and become a member. Here you will find out how to get an internship and get tons of great advice about being an intern including do’s and don’ts of applying for an internship, interviewing for an internship, and working at an internship. With this information you can participate in one of these top internship programs, and easily succeed.

Interning in any country, in any industry, has its pros and cons, and to make things easier for those of you who are getting a summer internship this year, here are the top 10 things that you can do to make your internship a success:

Make Sure You are Noticed

Make sure that the important people in the company realize that you are new by initiating contact and offering to help out in any way. Your friendly, go-getter attitude is what will impress the boss.

Do Research About the Company

Knowing everything you can about the company you are going to intern at and its employers will give you a good footing. You can learn more by reading local newspapers, asking the Chamber of Commerce, setting up interviews, checking websites, and requesting more information from the company itself.

Set Goals and Keep Busy

Setting goals will ensure that you make the most of your internship. If you find that you have completed the work given to you by your supervisor, then request other assignments.

Knowledge is Key

Read as many trade journals and magazines as you can that are related to the industry you are interning in.

Do the Smaller Tasks Without Complaint

Yes, you may have to make coffee or fetch sandwiches, but you must take any task and do your best, proving to your employers that you can handle anything. Setting up an agreement prior to starting your internship is vital in this regard, to ensure that your services are not being taken advantage of.

Ask as many Questions as you Can

Use your student status to learn and ask as many questions as you like.

Find a Mentor

Find someone that you can talk to about the industry and who enjoys showing newbie’s the ropes.

Be Professional

Respect the company and its policies by not getting involved in gossip or office politics.

Develop Professional Relationships

Develop constructive working relationships that will allow you to excel. Keep in the loop at all times by communicating with your supervisor.

Be Enthusiastic

Be enthusiastic about every aspect of the company and ask to be included in meetings, workshops and any other professional aspect. Your motivation will encourage the company to hire you after you have completed your internship.

These tips will ensure that you make the most of any internship that you apply for. You can learn more about internships and find out how to apply by checking out the Internship Finder website.

If you want to become an intern to get ahead in the career of your choice, there are many ways of doing this and many places where you can find exciting intern programs. One of the most exciting places to become an intern is overseas. There are many wonderful benefits and opportunities of getting an international internship, but you must be very careful to choose the internship for the actual job and not for the location. To get the best training and advice possible, you should not necessarily choose an internship in the most exotic location, but rather where you feel you will get the best working opportunity. You will also benefit greatly from working in a foreign land, and learn about different cultures and economic structures.

Remember that in other countries there might be perfect opportunities for you depending on the career you want to go into, but they might not be called internships. You can look for volunteer programs, work experience, fellowship programs, and more. As with most internship programs you can find plenty of unpaid internships and only a few paid internships overseas and many of them offer academic credit. When you are looking at going overseas for an internship, you must also consider the extra costs that would be involved such as airfare, accommodation, food and transport. You will need to do lots of research before you leave to be an intern overseas, such as learning the language, the culture, the locations, and more. The best thing you can do is get in contact with another intern in the same country and field of work that you are entering, to get real world answers to your questions.

To find out more about international internship opportunities and local internship programs, including getting intern advice, finding out when to intern, and being able to sign up for a free internship newsletter, you can browse the Internship Finder website.

When you want to learn all about the career path you have in mind after graduating, an internship is probably the best and most common way to do this. You not only gain on the job experience, but you will sometimes get paid as much as the entry level salary depending on the industry. There are various types of internships of which the paid version is one. There is also a for-credit internship where you will receive credits towards your graduation, which is normally an unpaid job. Sometimes however there is also a paid credit option called a stipend, but these are very rare to find, and many just cover your basics, such as transport, meals, and placement.

When you are looking for an internship while still at college or university, make sure that you can find one that offers academic credits as this will help you greatly for future job placement. Many of the internships are tough to get as there are normally just one or two positions open for paid and for-credit interns. This kind of competition should be seen as an excellent way to prove your work ethic in the corporate world. You need to stand out above the other applicants. If you cannot find a good internship at the company you want, or in the position that you want, you can also opt for the general corporate internships that will still give you a look into the real working world even though it is not in the exact positions that you want.

Here are some things that you will need to do to secure an internship:

You need to be the best student possible.

You need a winning personality.

You should have an impressive work ethic.

You must be dedicated and willing to learn.

Another thing you can do to secure an internship is to check out the Internship Finder, and once the member’s area launches you can join and have access to a database of the best internship programs and employers that offer internships. You can also get tips, advice, and all the information that you need to make a success of your internship. Being a good intern is all about researching the company that you are going to work for, and one of the best ways to do this is to keep your eyes on Internship Finder. In the member’s area you can find a semi-detailed database of employers that you can apply for internships at. These employer profiles will give you a very good idea of what you need to know about the company when you go for an interview for an internship.
