Airline giant, British Airways, held a long online recruitment initiative aimed specifically at pilots. The campaign, which started in August 2011, is the biggest recruitment drive that BA has held in over 10 years. They received over 6500 applications for pilot jobs, with their Future Pilot Program initiative receiving 3500 applicants vying for the 80 spots available. BA was astounded by the response and reported that after just 24 hours of being live, their recruitment careers page on their website received 25,000 hits.

Of the applicants, 3000 were from experienced pilots who were already flying with other carriers, but who wanted a change. Head of recruitment for BA, Captain Robin Glover said, “We are delighted with the fantastic response. We want to recruit the very highest standard of pilots and the BA Future Pilot Program widens the talent pool even further.”

The huge campaign was held due to BA’s promise to offer 800 new pilot jobs by the year 2016, and they plan for half of this number to come from the Future Pilot Program, giving first time pilots the support and training that they need to secure a top job with one of the best airlines in the world.

Aside from the UK, many other countries are struggling with a shortage of qualified pilots, with Asia Pacific topping the list. Here, there are currently 60,000 pilots with 35,000 technicians, and due to forecasts, in the next 20 years they will require 183,000 pilots to cope with the increased air traffic. In total, the aviation industry worldwide will require over 1 million pilots and technicians by the year 2030.

According to Boeing, China is expected to require the largest portion of new pilots. Roei Ganzarski, Boeing’s Flight Services unit chief customer officer commented on the shortage, saying, “The question is where will (airlines) get all of these people and how? Some airlines have grounded flights or reduced flights due to the shortage, and carriers have had to ground brand new airplanes. It’s at point where here in Asia-Pacific we’ve already heard of a few airlines that have already reduced their operations or even grounded airplanes because they don’t have the people to fly them.”

Aside from China, India is also expected to require a huge amount of pilots, with 300 already required by IndiGo towards the end of 2012 to cope with the fleet expansion. The region is also looking for 1500 new pilots to fill jobs at Garuda Indonesia by 2016 with Vietnam also requiring about 1500 pilots by 2020. Like BA, Jetstar has also begun a recruitment drive to attract the top candidates to apply for their 150 pilot careers.

Ryanair CEO, Micheal O’Leary announced a new string of flights from Manchester which is said to create up to 2000 new airline jobs. The 20 new routes will be added to the existing ones out of Manchester by the summer of 2012, giving them the delivery projection of 2 million passengers per year. The new routes announced will be to Milan, Barcelona, Paris, Rome, Ibiza, and Brussels. The initial influx of airline jobs will be in October when the airline will introduce 2 new aircraft and offer 250 aviation jobs including pilot jobs, crew jobs, and flight attendant jobs just to name a few. The remaining aircraft and jobs will be added up until 2012.

O’Leary said, “Ryanair is delighted to unveil Manchester as our 45th base with 26 routes. It is great news for Ryanair, for Manchester and terrific news for the industry and local economy.”

Although Ryanair had only 18 months ago cut flights from Manchester, the news comes amidst the partnership between the air carrier and Manchester City Airport to offer hundreds of budget flights, which has resulted in Ryanair’s continued involvement in this area and the reason for many jobs being posted there.

The deal has currently created over 600 jobs in the Manchester region and brought about 600 thousand more passengers to the area and it is hoped that this growing trend will continue as the expansion takes place over the next few months.

SpiceJet, the new Indian Airline is currently searching for new pilots and cabin crew. The pilot jobs on offer amount to 150 while there are also 300 cabin crew jobs available. These will be based locally in India as SpiceJet plans to increase its regional status. To this end they have also purchased 15 Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft in December last year, which can carry 70-80 passengers each. Their base of operations is likely to be Hyderabad.

The CEO of SpiceJet, Neil Mills stated, “We will recruit 150 pilots and 300 cabin crew for the regional airline. We will recruit chief of pilots and chief of engineering for the regional operations as the aircraft is new for the Indian aviation market. These positions will be filled in by the expats and we are in the process of finalizing the names.”

Mills added, “We have finalized our plans and will be announcing them shortly. The northern part of the country is well connected and we will look to focus in the south. We will do destinations that are one to one-and-a-half hours from Hyderabad and operations will start from June.”

Due to the high crude oil prices of late, there has been some concern over the regional expansion, but Mills has assured the public that things will go ahead as planned. “There is some pain in the sector right now because of the oil prices, but we will continue to expand. There is huge opportunity in the tier II and the tier III cities and that is where we will be looking to expand.”

SpiceJet, being a low cost airline is set to enter the market as a feeder airline to carry the traffic to and from legacy airlines like British Airways. Mills commented, “Low cost airlines have already taken over the feeder traffic passenger chunk for onward journeys. Legacy carriers cannot deliver at the prices at which low cost airlines can on the smaller city network.”

According to experts, SpiceJet will have to take full advantage of the tier I cities, which are those that have a population of over 5 million. Director of Aerospace and Defence at KPMG, Amber Dubey stated, “No airline can afford to be too focused on the tier II and tier III cities play. The Paramount debacle has shown this already. There has to be connectivity between the metros as well. And since two metro route operations are allowed in the south, airlines need to develop hoping routes and get feeder traffic in to these routes.”

If you want to learn more about pilot jobs, cabin crew airline jobs, or get detailed information on any other aviation career, make sure you visit Airline Job Finder today and become a member.

After 2 years of trying to get the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) reauthorization bill seen to, the Senate in Washington finally brought it to the floor. The bill centers around modernizing and improving the air transport industry by introducing brand new Next Generation (or NextGen) Air Transport Systems. These will not only reduce the risk of pollution and aviation accidents, but will also create more aviation jobs (roughly 280 thousand) and save airlines money, as the system relies on a satellite based GPS system as opposed to a ground based one. The bill however is going to cost $35 million and with pressing issues like healthcare, this has been pushed aside.

“We’ve been trying for years – years! – to get this bill passed,” gasped Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader.

Finally under review, the Senate will discuss the new bill throughout the week and will put it to a final Senate vote next week. Aside from aviation issues, the bill also includes various other issues including environment and air traffic control modernization, safety, an accelerated timeline to integrate depending automatic surveillance-broadcast technology, medical service operations, improved helicopter safety, air tour management plans over national parks, and the phasing out of Stage 2 business jets over the next three to five years.

According to Sen. Chuck Schumer, the new system will cut down on delays and cancellations drastically. He commented, “This FAA bill will help to change all of that, updating air traffic control systems to include state of the art GPS technology that will reduce maddening flight delays by over twenty percent.”

Already, though the debating has concluded in nothing except about 4 dozen amendments. Reid warned, “We’re not going to be playing around with this for another year.”

The bill is supposed to have bipartisan support and be implemented nationwide, but no headway has been made as yet.

If you are interested in getting your hands on one of the 280 thousand aviation jobs when and if the bill goes through, you should make sure that you are a member of Airline Job Finder. Here you will have access to the most relevant airline and aviation related jobs including pilot jobs, flight attendant jobs, aircraft maintenance jobs, air traffic controller jobs and more.

Once you are a member you can also apply for current airline job openings on the Job Board and gain access to a list of the best employers in the aviation industry.

Quebec aerospace firm, Premier Aviation, has teamed up with Windsor Airport to build a new multi-million dollar hangar, generating hundreds of aviation jobs. The huge project has been helped in part by the federal government who has put $4 million into the construction according to Mayor Eddie Francis and MP Jeff Watson.

This aviation project needs to be completed by the end of March 2011, for the government to allocate a further portion of funding. This has forced the city to start looking for tenants for the new hangar and allow the hard work of introducing an MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) to eventually come to fruition.

Mayor Francis said, “That is a real deadline. It would have to happen in the next little while.”

The hangar is expected to be 150 thousand square feet in size and will initially generate 200 aviation maintenance jobs for the area. Premier Aviation, who have various clients including Air Canada, WestJet, and Sunwings, offer paint jobs, specialized upgrades, heavy maintenance and everything in between.

The CEO of Premier, Ronnie Di Bartolo added that their company hopes to add over 300 aviation jobs to Quebec over the next 5 years. Windsor was chosen due to the vast number of skilled workers in the area who work in metal, electrical, and the mechanical trade. It seems as though education institutions are already celebrating the new facility and are planning to include aviation maintenance industry programs. The University of Windsor and St Claire College will benefit the most as their students will be used in the facility supplying engineering students and skilled tradesmen.

With a new hangar being built, various other kinds of airline and airport jobs will become available making this is the perfect time to brush up your resume and practice your interview skills. With the help of Airline Job Finder, you will be able to nail your interviews and get excellent airline jobs in Quebec or anywhere in the world that you choose.

Premier Aviation has been busy over the last year, acquiring three new hangar spaces in Rome, New York totaling 379 thousand square feet. They also spent a whopping $17 million on expanding their hangar location in Trois-Rivieres with $9 million of that amount being awarded in grants by the local Quebec and Ottawa governments.

Currently, the location of the new 6 storey hangar is under debate. It is either going to be built in one of two locations: either on Country Road 42 to the east of the main terminal at Windsor, or it will be built in the empty northeast corner near to Lauzon Road.

There is some concern about the location of the hangar and according to Kevin Michaels of aviation consulting firm, AeroStrategy, Windsor is not an ideal location. He said, “Wide-body aircraft maintenance is a very difficult market. It’s a global market. Those planes can travel anywhere in the world. So any facility in this part of North America is going to have to compete with facilities in low-cost regions like China, Southeast Asia, Latin America.”

The website provides detailed information about airline jobs, aviation maintenance jobs, pilot jobs, airport security jobs, and other aviation jobs. You will also gain access to a current job board once you sign up as a member and this will allow you to apply for jobs right away. First, make sure that you get as much advice as you can about creating a brilliant resume and application from the website’s relevant pages.

Once you are a member you will be able to access over 180 pages of information about air travel jobs and find out about different jobs, salaries you can earn, where you can work, what the conditions and hours are like, who is hiring, and get some insider information about various careers in aviation.

Due to the expansion in services with larger planes and more international flights, U.S Airways has announced that it will be recalling and hiring 500 pilots and flight attendants for 2011. These airline jobs will see employees being based in Charlotte, Philadelphia, Washington D.C and Phoenix. Flight attendant airline jobs make up 420 of the 500 openings and of this 100 people will be based in Phoenix. Of the 80 pilot jobs, 20 of them will be situated in this area.

Those employees who were let go or decided to take a furlough when the recession was at its peak will have the first crack at the jobs, although the flight attendant jobs in Phoenix, the head of the West Coast operations will be open to new hires as well without preference given to the furloughed employees. The pilots however will receive that benefit in Phoenix.

The Phoenix domicile chairman for USAPA, David Braid, said, “We are happy that the company is finally recalling our pilots. Unfortunately, we wish it was more.”

It is likely the there will be different contracts set up for those employees of branches in the West and those in the East. This is because the flight attendant and pilot unions have contracts drawn up before U.S Airways and America West merged. Currently the U.S Airline Pilots Association has also not been able to come up with a united contract for East and West and the likelihood is that employees will fall under one of the contracts, either East or West, which is a point of concern for the Vice President of the America West branch, Deborah Volpe.

This is because starting wages for flight attendants and pilots in the East are higher than those in the West. Flight attendants in the East currently earn $19.71 per hour with an increase to $19.91 in January, whilst in the West the wage is $16.18.

“It is outrageous that management would consider hiring flight attendants on the East at higher wages than our most junior flight attendants on the West,” she said.

Although the hiring process will not give all the pilots and flight attendants their jobs back, it will pave the way for future hires. US Airways aims to increase international capacity by 8 percent next year and hopes that all the new pilots and flight attendants will be in the air by June.

If you think you have what it takes to work for US Airways, make sure you get your application in right away. If you want to find out more about what the flight attendant and pilot jobs have to offer and how you can get involved, visit Airline Job Finder and become a member. You will have access to the most in depth information about pilot jobs, airline jobs, airport jobs, and aviation maintenance jobs with details regarding working hours, working conditions, relevant qualifications, and more.

Glasgow Airport is the new base for budget airline Jet2 who announced recently that they would be creating 150 airline jobs as part of the expansion. The airline will fly to major holiday destinations including Majorca, Alicante, Tenerife, Nice, Faro, and Paphos and others, which is expected to bring many more passengers to Glasgow Airport.

The 150 airline jobs that are created will be in the aviation maintenance field as well as airline pilots, airline stewards, cabin crew and more.

The Transport Minister in Scotland, Stewart Stevenson said, “This is a tremendous boost for Glasgow Airport, linking the city to new destinations and creating 150 jobs. I am particularly pleased that Scottish Enterprise has been able to offer RSA (Regional Selective Assistance) towards the creation of high-value maintenance jobs. This follows the excellent work of Scottish Development International in persuading Jet2 to establish these new jobs in Glasgow in the face of competition from other parts of the UK.”

One of the most famous advantages of working in aviation is that you get to travel for free or at highly discounted rates. You and your family can enjoy travelling in comfort, whilst you also qualify for health insurance, retirement plans, paid sick leave and vacation time. If you want to earn a good salary, travel for next to nothing, and work flexible hours under exciting conditions, then a career in the aviation industry is just the thing for you.

Most aviation jobs require you to have a degree and to start earning more money you will have to gain more experience in different sectors of the aviation industry. Most people start out working for government agencies like the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or for the Transport Security Administration (TSA). These organizations have many jobs in aviation that are office based, or at airports.

When you work in the private sector or public you will probably be checking for the latest pilot jobs. It takes plenty of training to be a pilot and you will have to train for different types of aircraft. Those who can fly small winged, large winged, cargo and passenger planes, as well as manned or unmanned aircraft will have more opportunities and the option of requesting a higher salary.

You can choose to work exclusively for a private company, but bear in mind that working conditions and hours will vary. You might not get the additional benefits you want, but private aviation jobs do pay more.

Aside from being a pilot, you can look for aviation jobs that involve the maintenance of the aircraft. Aviation maintenance is highly important so that crashes can be prevented, and so that parts can be made and assembled.

There are tons of other careers in the aviation industry including the following:

Airline Jobs

Flight Attendants

Gate Agents

Ground Crew

Airline Pilot Jobs

Corporate Pilots

Agricultural Pilots

Commercial Pilots

Airport Jobs

Baggage Checker

Security

Manager

Retail Staff

Ground Support Jobs

Ramp Agent Jobs

Baggage Handlers

Fuelers

Control Tower Staff

Government Aviation Jobs

National Transportation Safety Board

Federal Aviation Administration

Transportation Security Administration

Bureau of Land Management

National Aeronautics and Space Administration

Aviation Manufacturing and Maintenance

Aeronautical Engineering

Software

Airframe Mechanics

These are just some of the many aviation jobs you can choose from. Some you have to study for at a college or university, while others simply require a certificate or even a high school diploma. No matter what type of training you have, you can always find an aviation job that will suit you. To work your way up in the airlines or at airports you have to prove that you are dedicated and you should be prepared to work for fairly long hours. You must also be prepared to travel if you are a flight attendant or pilot.

If you want to know more about the aviation business and learn about all the other types of aviation jobs there are, you can become a member of Airline Job Finder. Once you are a member you will have instant access to all the latest airline job openings and airport jobs.

If you have ever dreamt of flying a plane you are in luck. There are lots of different pilot jobs that one can apply for and if you learn about each one, as well as the training that is required, you can easily make a high salary as a pilot. So, what are the different types of pilot jobs out there that you can apply for? Here are a few to start off with.

Pilot

The pilot usually flies the aircraft and if there is an emergency they must know how to handle it. They work with the steering and have to know how each part of the plane works.

Co-Pilot / First Officer

Although the pilot is the main leader on a plane, the co-pilot, or the first officer, is also fully trained to be able to fly the plane in an emergency situation. They are also there to relieve the pilot and assist with navigation, communications, and more.

Flight Engineer / Second Officer

The main tasks that are meant for the flight engineer, particularly on a long distance flight, is to monitor the rate of fuel consumption which includes the winds, engine RPM, and some other factors.

Freight Carrier Pilot

Air freight pilots or cargo pilots work for companies like courier services. The important cargo includes shipments of food, mail, packages, machinery, and anything else that needs to be transported via air. All these companies have their own special fleets of aircraft for this so you can apply for a pilot job.

Corporate Pilots

If you want to fly executives and clients in a fancy private plane, you can get a well paying position with any corporate air travel company. Corporate pilots will fly nationally to different cities, attend the trade shows and perhaps visit the regional offices.

Traffic Pilot

Air traffic report pilots often work for radio or television stations, as well as traffic reporting companies. Sometimes, an air traffic pilot might be asked to help government or law enforcement agencies if it is safe.

Helicopter Pilots

Helicopter pilots are usually required for transporting cargo, i.e. people and equipment short distances. Some helicopter pilots work for mining corporations and they could also be hired by a government agency to track and document wildlife. They might also have an air traffic reporter job.

With these and tons of other pilot jobs available you will have no trouble in picking the top jobs that pay the best and also getting a pilot job anywhere in the world. You can learn a lot more about what kinds of pilot jobs there are and find out how to apply directly for a pilot job by becoming a member of Airline Job Finder. When you join as a member you will not only get access to a huge database of pilot jobs, but you will also get a database of the different pilot employers that there are.
